Putting a bull in a feild with a public footpath isnt very sportsperson like

I spend time planning a circular route so that my walks are interesting. 90% of the way through there is a feild with a bull, there is a sign up saying "caution bull in field", well thanks!

I'm going to try to do it but it is annoying. Its bad enough a field of cows who start to run towards you, that scares me shirtless.

If you don't hear from me again Sad

If it's going to be on TV the OP will have to keep her shirt on though.

OldCrowMedicineShow · 10/01/2016 17:06

Don't go near it if it is a Limousin bull.

RudeElf · 10/01/2016 17:08

When i was in primary school one of my friend's dad was killed when a cow kicked him in the head.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 10/01/2016 17:09

We've only had this once, trying to find a geocache the footpath went through a field, there was a massive bull in there. I'd have taken my chances and just hoped I could run faster than the children but they weren't keen so we had to turn back.

goddessofsmallthings · 10/01/2016 17:12

If you're going to frolic in a field with a bull, don't wear red and make sure you're wearing running shoes.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 10/01/2016 17:16

Cows will Attack, normally only if they have calves. Dogs are often a trigger. I do know someone who was nearly killed though and she didn't have a dog. She was in ICU for weeks and week, broke loads of bones, collapsed lungs, spleen I jury, etc.

Yeah I would watch that sparkling Grin

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 10/01/2016 17:26

What's the difference between dairy bulls and beef bulls?

abc112 · 10/01/2016 17:30

I am surprised they are outside this time of year.

Sparklingbrook · 10/01/2016 17:31

TV programme would definitely not be shirtless. I don't think I have ever been scared shirtless TBH.

ValiantMouse · 10/01/2016 17:32

Dairy bulls are fucking evil.

Birdsgottafly · 10/01/2016 17:33

""What's the difference between dairy bulls and beef bulls?""

Beef Bulls are castrated, Dairy aren't and so are more aggressive/territorial.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 10/01/2016 17:35

I am really scared of cows. I don't mind bulls but cows.. They have evil eyes. I just.. I can't do cows.

This thread had not alleviated my fear.

VegetablEsoup · 10/01/2016 17:37

dairy bulls are full of testosterone and can be agressive. and frightfully muscular.
beef bulls are mainly interested in eating, are rounder and would usually just stare at you whilst you are crossing the field.

Palomb · 10/01/2016 17:37

It can't be a bull of its been castrated surely?

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 10/01/2016 17:39

Thanks, Birds and Veg.

VegetablEsoup · 10/01/2016 17:40

bulls are just male cattle.
a steer is un-castrated.
beef bulls are castrated because they are so much safer to handle and also put on weight more quickly.

Palomb · 10/01/2016 17:42

So no word like 'gelding' for cows?

abc112 · 10/01/2016 17:43

a castrated male is a bullock surely.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/01/2016 17:44

Beef Bulls are not castrated that is why they are called bulls

Schwabischeweihnachtskanne · 10/01/2016 17:44

Some beef bulls must have their balls... otherwise beef breeds would die out pretty soon surely? :o

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 10/01/2016 17:44

T'other way about surely? Steers are castrated, bulls are entire.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 10/01/2016 17:46

I never had a lot to do with the cattle on the farm but the beef bull wasn't castrated.....his purpose in life was to get the cattle pregnant.

hereiamagain22 · 10/01/2016 17:46

A bull is by definition uncastrated.

A bullock is a castrated male - being raised for beef.

If there were no beef bulls then there'd be noone to give the beef cows a little loving and get them pregnant.

Dairy cows are usually artifically inseminated by bulls kept separately.
Beef herds usually have a bull to do his duty naturally.

VegetablEsoup · 10/01/2016 17:48

T'other way about surely? Steers are castrated, bulls are entire.

of course, got them mixed up. Blush so beef bulls are (usually) steers.
