if someone is waiting at your house for deliveries

I was asked by my sister to come and wait at her house for furniture being delivered. She is aware I have my girls with me. I've been here since 7:30. We left home at 6:30am to get here on time. We had breakfast at home and I always carry small snacks.
Am I being unreasonable to think they could at least have left something for our lunch (tin of soup, stuff for beans on toast), anything.
I have found some custard creams and black pudding. That is it!
I wouldn't mind but my sister always eats me out of house and home when she visits. I don't mind but now I am perplexed that there is nowt for us to have at her house.----
I have found various empty plastic tubs that are mine when I give her food home!
I think I am going to have to order pizza to be delivered. God knows when the furniture will arrive and the neighbours will be thinking the youngest is being murdered. She doesn't take well to being hungry! The Incredible Hulk would be more understanding
She has 3 more deliveries after today. I'm going to say get food in or warn me to pack a picnic! I don't except Michelin star food but perhaps a slice of bread.

I know, Gone. And any time it snows and the deliveries go wrong or whatever, people suddenly have nothing at all that they can eat. I'll see your two weeks and raise you a month Grin.

Frostycake · 07/01/2016 15:16

but surely even if they've only been in the house for a month or so, they'd have stacks of food left over from Christmas? Crisps, nuts, biscuits, chocolate, mince pies, frozen stuff, store cupboard stuff. Really, how do they cope unless they simply live on take-aways all the time? How curious. The only time I remember living like that was in my early twenties and even then I had cereal, milk, fruit and vodka in at all times. What do they do for breakfast for instance? Eating fast food must be costing a bomb and making them ill.

Jux · 07/01/2016 15:37

I think we could live for a few weeks, if not more, on our cupboard. It would stop being healthy and nutritious quite quickly, though I have a lot of different flours so I could make bread for some time.

Tiggeryoubastard · 07/01/2016 16:12

I know it's not the most accepted use of the word but there's something quite squalid about living like that. And to whoever up thread said that as teachers they may not have time to cook - what an utterly ridiculous comment.

diddl · 07/01/2016 16:12

I think that is really thoughtless.

07.30-13.00 delivery slot, Op with 2 preschoolers(?) & an hours drive!

No bread, for even plain toast!

If I had breakfast pre 06.30 I'd probably be wanting a second breakfast around 10.00!

Just a bag of pasta & a jar of sauce.

Or leave a tenner towards something!

RudeElf · 07/01/2016 16:25

Shock what the hell do they eat? They must live on take away or microwave food picked up on the way home from work. I couldnt cope with empty cupboards. Sometimes i need a second dinner at 11.30pm.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/01/2016 16:26

It was me that said that they might not have time to cook. Teachers are known to work long hours, marking, prep etc. We don't know how long their commute is, although I note that one of them appeared fairly quickly with the beans so for him at least it can't be that far.

In that situation and with no DCs they might have decided that cooking is not something they want to do so don't keep food in. Plenty of people don't. I still think it's odd though, but it is the way that a lot of people live.

listsandbudgets · 07/01/2016 16:44

Wow don't think your sister and I would get on OP. My cupboards and freezer are constantly stuffed with food and I've got plenty of saucepansa nd kitchen implements

However despite having lived here for five years there are still a lot of pictures that have never made it to the wall and most of my cushions don't match.

YANBU. Who the hell lives on black pudding, custard creams, chilli peanuts and ketchup. What a feast Hmm

listsandbudgets · 07/01/2016 16:48

I'm another who reckons on being able to survive a month out of supplies in the house though the meals may get a bit odd towards the end

LilacRain · 07/01/2016 17:16

Why didn't you just take a packed lunch with you?

I think you should have asked her in advance to provide food, not assumed she would do so.

It would have been nice if she'd provided food but she was probably busy and forgot. I don't think she's responsible for feeding you and your kids even if you are doing her a favour.

diddl · 07/01/2016 17:29

"Why didn't you just take a packed lunch with you?"

Well I would have thought that Op had enough to do what with getting herself & two kids up, breakfasted & out of the house for 6.30 am.

I'm obviously a slattern as I wouldn't be doing that plus making a bloody packed lunch.

Op have the places she's lived always been devoid of food?

Orwas it not to be expected?

Does she really eat you out of house & home or is she stocking up from your supply?Grin

OnlyLovers · 07/01/2016 17:29

Lilac, the sister could at least have said 'By the way, I've got no food in so best bring your own supplies.'

RudeElf · 07/01/2016 17:42

Who brings a packed lunch to their sister's house? Confused i could understand stopping at the shop on the way to buy juice or fruit or whatever to keep DC going til lunch time but surely you would expect your sister to be happy enough to feed you while youre doing her a favour at significant inconvenience to you.

QueenStromba · 07/01/2016 18:21

I also don't understand how anyone who isn't completely skint lives in a house with no food in it. We could easily live for a month on the food we have at any one time although we'd be down to nuts, seeds and legumes for plant based food by the end of week two.

LineyReborn · 08/01/2016 10:12

I know, it sounds bizarre. Do they not eat breakfast? Do they not ever fancy a quick sandwich?

ppeatfruit · 08/01/2016 14:27

Lilac I'm glad you don't owe me a favour, Of course I would supply lunch for someone who was in my house waiting for a delivery for ME. That's the least I would do fgs.

Anaffaquine123 · 08/01/2016 16:50

I feel really bad because after this yesterday. Dsis' house got flooded with rain water and the overflowing river.
It is probably a good job she didn't have much in- it was less to move upstairs.
Lilac, if I came for a coffee with you, would I need to supply my own biscuit or would that be included?!?
Glad that most of us were in agreement that it was odd. Dsis is much younger than me - still in student mode, I think.

OMG Ana Did you notice the river rising when you were there? Lucky she has an upstairs.
