As you might've guessed, I've just watched the annual Sound of Music airing on the BBC. And Captain Von Trapp! Well, you would, wouldn't you?

We've got the DVD (because DD likes the film of course Grin. It has a producer's commentary and he said that they had to take stills of CP made up to persuade the studio he could look old enough.

YY to gloves with intent! And his outfits in general, I'm sure one jacket has velvet lapels! But I'd quite happily undress him, so the velvet is a non issue Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/01/2016 20:04

You've really got to stop this, Iguana Blush

Mind you, it missed out the "glove adjustment" bit which he did while watching from the doorway, just before walking towards Maria. Not that I really noticed, of course Grin

My cousin ruined this film for me. When his parents had a brief separation he came to stay with us. He brought two videos - SOM & Live and Let Die. We had to watch both films every day for the entire summer holiday. I can't bring myself to watch either anymore.

Gloves with intent ...

Oedipus the King -

mrwalkensir · 01/01/2016 20:29

(toga-type action)

IguanaTail · 01/01/2016 20:30

Oh Puzzled - Blush yes!! Adjusting them. What is it with that. So impressed you got an actual meme of that!

IguanaTail · 01/01/2016 20:33

There were a couple of suits with velvet collars. Yes. Here's one. The whistle scene.

"and what is your signal?"

"You may call me 'Captain'"

Oh and his singing was dubbed. So that lovely Edelweiss? That voice belongs to a fellow named Bill Lee.

MissMogwi · 01/01/2016 20:42

YANBU he is delicious. I always get the tingles when he sings Edelweiss (sp?)

I watched the live Sound of Music last week and was disappointed with whoever played the Captain. Just didn't have the same air about him.

Young Robert Redford was also gorgeous.

MissMogwi · 01/01/2016 20:43

Aw cross post. Wasn't he singing? Ah well, tingles all the same Grin

Roonerspism · 01/01/2016 20:44

Utterly gorgeous.

I always imagined he did love Julie Andrews who was wonderful in it.

Now I learn he was sleazing after the youngster!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 01/01/2016 20:45

I always thought his voice was horrible, if they were going to dub it, why did they choose that voice?

Here's the link to the rest, Iguana

In particular see numbers 6 and 9 ... if you can stand it Wink

JeSuisUnaStubbs · 01/01/2016 20:49

Hot as hell. I've adored him since I was about 7 and he gets better with every showing of that film, even though he's not aging I suppose I am Sad

I also love Frank Finlay and Anthony Hopkins, but Christopher Plummer is my preferred option.

I felt really emotional watching it today, and I've seen it hundreds of times. I think because my oldest DD was watching it with me for the first time (she was a bit bemused, I told her it was the Frozen of my day and Captain VT was like Kristoff). The bit where he sang Edelweiss at the festival really choked me up.

Hassled · 01/01/2016 20:50

I've always loved that dance scene in SOM and stupidly thought that it was the romance of it all that I loved. Now I see it was more the Captain that I loved. He had certain something.

Andylion · 01/01/2016 20:51

Iguana, I thought I was the only one to go ape over the glove adjustment.

PunkrockerGirl · 01/01/2016 20:58

I've watched it countless times and he gets more and more gorgeous to me.
The glove adjustment bit, just phwoar Grin

tokoloshe2015 · 01/01/2016 21:03

And the medals with civilian evening dress - 'I can fight if I need to (and be bl**dy good at it), but I'm not the insensitive military type'

Y'know, like all those poets writing amidst the horrors and then going and capturing a trench...

Lovewhereilive · 01/01/2016 21:04

I've always loved the captain

IguanaTail · 01/01/2016 21:07

Those Gifs are superb. Love the "commanding" one!

Roonerspism · 01/01/2016 21:08

jesuis I felt very choked up watching it today too. Unusually so! I was explaining the Nazi stuff - in a gentle way - and then thought how fucked the world still is. And the music just got me

BoGrainger · 01/01/2016 21:10

Aaaaaargh! Go away everyone, he's MINE MINE MINE!! Every time we have a which-old-person-would-you-definitely-do thread I'm usually the only one swooning over Christopher Plummer, so sod off you late-to-the-partyers he belongs to MEEEEEEE!

HanSolo · 01/01/2016 21:17

He's lovely, isn't he? I'm amazed he's still alive-alive-o!
