As you might've guessed, I've just watched the annual Sound of Music airing on the BBC. And Captain Von Trapp! Well, you would, wouldn't you?

YADDDDDDDDDDDDDNBU

"How clumsy of me...I meant to accuse you"

DramaAlpaca · 01/01/2016 17:39

Hell yes!

emwithme · 01/01/2016 17:45

I'm sorry, I can't concentrate, what with me being a puddle of goo on the floor.

I always used to think my mum was odd for having a crush on him (what with him being all old and everything) and now I'm the age my mum was I think she was absolutely right. Oh yes.

CoffeeCoffeeAndLotsOfIt · 01/01/2016 17:48

I definitely would - he was gorgeous!

Lottapianos · 01/01/2016 17:49

He is total yum in SOM. That bearded photo - have mercy!

Chelsea26 · 01/01/2016 17:54

I remember watching SOM all the time when I was small and fancying Friedrich and then I didn't watch it for 20 years and came back to it and was suddenly - Hello There Geaog (no clue how to spell that!)

PuntasticUsername · 01/01/2016 17:56

YANBU. He would get it. SO badly, he would get it.

Bakeoffcake · 01/01/2016 18:01

Was he only 35 in that film? He looks older! just saying that cos I'm 50 and fancy him to bits

I did my ironing whilst watching this afternoon. He got me through itXmas Grin

It's also lovely to hear that he grew to like the film after all those years of hating it.

JolieColombe · 01/01/2016 18:02

YANBU. I've just watched the ITV live version with DD1 and there's no comparison! Thankfully she did not approve, so we'll be going back to the real thing and I can swoon happily Grin

DiscoSpider · 01/01/2016 18:03

Yes yes YES. Even dh said thoughtfully as we watched it earlier "I probably would you know... In a straight way. Him and Gene Kelly. Probably not together though."
Probably! 😂

MuttonCadet · 01/01/2016 18:04

Oh yes!

LucyMouse · 01/01/2016 18:07

Absolutely love the Captain. He is on my allowed list.

IguanaTail · 01/01/2016 18:10

Liesl was 23. He was 36.

PunkrockerGirl · 01/01/2016 18:10

Definitely! Absolutely gorgeous.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 01/01/2016 18:36

Who wouldn't?

PistachioNutter · 01/01/2016 18:41

So glad I found this thread!!

Watched it when it was on earlier for the first time as an adult and was a little bit 'ooh hello there!' Then felt all wrong!

PizzaLegs23 · 01/01/2016 18:44

It's the boots

oneowlgirl · 01/01/2016 18:51

I watched it today too & thought he was gorgeous (when before I've only ever thought of him as an old man!!).

You are not alone Op Grin

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/01/2016 19:30

May I also draw your attention to the young Robert Redford?

My attention's never wavered, thanks all the same Grin

The SoM bit which does it for me is the gala ball scene, where CP straightens his gloves to prepare for dancing with Maria in the hall. There really should be a charge for that sort of thing: adjusting gloves with intent, perhaps?

MrsFring · 01/01/2016 19:50

Try this.

TeaFathers · 01/01/2016 19:52

he himself said that he was a total wanker back then. and that he made life very hard for everyone involved in that film.
he never really did it for me either way.

IguanaTail · 01/01/2016 19:57

Yes the gloves! And the clapping during that folk dance as he watched Maria.
