Been a lovely afternoon today.

Took our three youngest DC to town to go ice skating and look at the lights before having dinner.

In the town centre there's a huge teepee marquee that is being used as a bar/restaurant/ during Christmas. Really lovely inside with twinkly lights and benches covered with blankets.

Anyway, whilst I was quaffing an overpriced mulled wine a group of women come in.
All nicely dressed with a gaggle of very sweet young children who proceeded to bazz around the bar area.
The women were sat ignoring the running kids who were weaving in and out of customers carrying drinks. The children (about 6 altogether) then quietened and sat down on a low stage.
Then, one go the mums turned in her seat and pipes up:
'Little Jimmy/Cuthbert/Twinkletoes! Run around again like before so I can take a photo if you!'

For fuck's sake.
Dicks.

Bet they'd be the first to complain if their kid ended up covered in gluhwein.

I didn't realise that there were so many of us from Bolton!

LookingForwardto2016 · 29/12/2015 22:16

I know it's a small world.

OP I bet you didn't expect this when you posted your thread did you?! Grin

GrinLooking!

my nanna lived at the top of the hill in Breightmet and I spent many Christmas Eves at the little cinema in the middle of Bolton and a lot of my teenage Saturdays at the Waterplace - the number 8 bus was my second home. Scottish DH thinks the expression "flour cake" is v exotic.

overwhelmed34 · 29/12/2015 23:00

Ooh! I went to Church Rd then Canon Slade. Moved away years ago. This thread has made me v homesick!

NaiceVillageOfTheDammed · 29/12/2015 23:11

Bolton always seamed an exotic place to me when I were a girl.

QueenArseClangers · 29/12/2015 23:26

Right then! I'm going to start a Bolton thread in chat tomorrow!

We can reminisce about the Water Place and Ritzys!

I used to LOVE the WaterPlace but Ritzys was before my time. Ikon for me haha.

WillSomebodyThinkOfStefan · 29/12/2015 23:37

I never went in the Water Place although loads of people from 6th form (Turton) used to work there. I spent many a student night in Ritzy - couldn't stand it at the weekend though.

madamginger · 30/12/2015 00:52

God I thought I was so grown up when my mum used to let me and my mates get the bus into Bolton to go to the water place, I was maybe 12 or 13.

Seren85 · 30/12/2015 01:13

Waving at the Bolton crew from nearby Athy. Ah the water place and ikon!

HitsAndMrs · 30/12/2015 01:19

Not from Bolton but close! J2?? I spent every Saturday at the water place (that was the one next the morrisons, right?)

Seren85 · 30/12/2015 01:22

Yes it was.

unlucky83 · 30/12/2015 01:57

Ahh I grew up near Bolton (a long time ago now) I did go to the Ritzy a couple of times in later years (last time 1992 I think! not sure it was still the ritzy then?) ... but does anyone remember the Dance Factory? (under the cinema). A bit rough and always a big queue in the chippies afterwards (Every time I think of it I remember the Macc Lads Beer & Sex & Chips n Gravy -not I ever did anything like that but judging by the alleys around a lot did...)

x2boys · 30/12/2015 07:53

x2boys · 30/12/2015 07:54
