There is a new chemical that the government seen to be hiding from us - dihydrogen monoxide. Not many people seem to have heard of it but it is widely used.

Why do they always hide this sort of thing from us. See the website below for more information.

Actually, Egosumquisum it's when the two are mixed together that things get dangerous . . .

TheNumberfaker · 26/12/2015 16:28

Every cloud has a silver lining. Think of all the good this nasty chemical does in homeopathic medicine!

TartanBirdFeeder · 26/12/2015 16:28

We have a ready supply in our house, my DCs love using cast quantities of it, especially dd when an unpopular boy phones to speak to her.

Egosumquisum You can indeed. If for example you dissolve a unit of oxygen dihydride in four units of dihydrogen monoxide you get a solution of one unit of dihydrogen monoxide in four of oxygen dihydride - and what makes it so dangerous is that you can't see it happening.

And in much of the world this stuff is piped into homes and schools and people won't buy houses or send children to schools where it is not available. Of course they've been brainwashed into believing that it is healthy or desirable or even essential. You can't even blame the people who brainwashed them - they got the same treatment. From birth and before. It is widely alleged that mothers pass DHMO to their babies before theya re even born!

You know its found in tap water?

Andrewofgg · 26/12/2015 17:31

Yes, and the rivers are full of it.

We are all doomed - please imagine a Kenneth Williams voice from Round the Horne.

while people still get scared about 'chemicals' and believe that 'natural' is harmless, there is EVERY need for this kind of thing!

Genuine disbelief from some people I know that arsenic and radioactive rocks are naturally occurring. Often people who won't touch "chemicals", but are happy to dye their hair, drive a car and fill their DC with Calpol at the slightest sign of a sniffle.

WMittens · 26/12/2015 18:21

New? I'm fairly sure that web page existed before ARPANET was even created.

And also, y'know, eat chemicals, drink chemicals, wear chemicals and breathe chemicals.

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2015 19:30

Yep. Drives me nuts.

OurBlanche · 27/12/2015 10:03

I am upset.

2 cracking jokes and no one even bloody noticed.

I said DOH! Not re Homer Simpson. I was pandering to She Who Was Angry, DHMO (She is annoyed as that implies 2 hydrogens 1 oxygen) should be corrected to 1 hydrogen 2 oxygen, DiOxyHydrate - DOH.

And none of you laughed at my brilliance! You miserable feckers Angry

Nor did you join me in my next cleverness "Love is like oxidane" cos that is another clever renaming!

Pah! I have had since the mid 80s to think about this (I think that's when the first hoax information sheet was published). Pre t'internet and all that. It was spread by word of mouth.

It flowed through person to person contact. Dripped into the wider social consciousness, drizzled into our every day lives, until it flooded our awareness and change the way we thought about our world and we were precipitated into A Scared New World, our enthusiasm for life became dampened, dank, doused in fear and loathing.

I bid you all a good day Smile

I think you should maybe reread your DOH explaination, blanche 😁

I did like 'love is like oxidane' though :)

OurBlanche · 27/12/2015 14:20

Beyond DOH was just for you. Though I did suspect I had mangled it a bit quite comprehensively Smile

The earworm came courtesy of DHs Chem Eng book and DHs memory of oxidane. Thankfully it washed away on a tide of Pan Pipes, courtesy of Aardman Animations Smile
