I know....first world problem etc. But DH and I set a small budget each. One of the things Id asked for was pricey for what it is but within the budget and under £20, so not actually expensive.

Swapped gifts with all of his side of the family today and one of his relatives got me a gift which is very similar to what Id asked dh for but not quite. DH said "oh yes I was going to get you that then X said they had so I had a re think".

I feel awful to actually be a bit disappointed. The item I wanted was pretty and clever and good quality and this is a replica, not good quality, different details. To dhs mind (dare I say to a mans mind) they are one and the same.

But they arent Sad

I wanted roller skates, I got those shit plastic things that go over your shoes. I feel your pain.

TracyBarlow · 24/12/2015 23:39

MIL asks me what I want for about £50 every year. Every year I ask for a very specific candle that I can't afford for myself, and have never had. Every Christmas morning I smile as I open a pound shop candle and £49 worth of tat that I'll never use again. And I hear the words "I didn't think you'd want me to spend that much on a candle...."

THEN WHY DO I FUCKING ASK FOR IT EVERY YEAR MIL? WHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

notverytall · 25/12/2015 00:45

I wanted a Care Bear....so my mum KNITTED me one. I cried.
I feel terrible now as it must have taken her hours.

TheSpectreOfMorningtonCrescent · 25/12/2015 01:14

I may be in that position in the morning, I've asked for something boring, practical, but in a funky style. I'm pretty sure Dh has got his approximation of it. Big smile now!

CakeNinja · 25/12/2015 01:19

OP WHAT IS ITTTT??

CakeNinja · 25/12/2015 01:20

(Sorry for shouty caps but the answer makes a big difference to my response!)

NeedsAsockamnesty · 25/12/2015 01:28

Bet it's a bead

PeaceOfWildThings · 25/12/2015 01:32

I thought it was probably a non Pandora bead, too.

Decanter · 25/12/2015 01:35

A bead? Xmas Confused
What, like one you thread onto string? A wooden bead?

DonkeyOaty · 25/12/2015 02:06

Yep I reckon a bead too.

MyFriendsCallMeOh · 25/12/2015 02:50

Sorry but knitted care bear, lmao Grin

Bifflepants · 25/12/2015 03:02

My Dad once got me a Guns 'n' Roses calendar when I liked The Stone Roses. I was so insulted.

Strawclutching · 25/12/2015 04:17

I feel the pain on the a la carte kitchen. I dreamed of it but mum and dad thought it was too expensive (fair enough). I would still quite like one though...

Eminybob · 25/12/2015 04:28

This has reninded me of when I was 6 I really loved the smurfs and my mums friend bought me a generic gnome book thinking it was the same.

I actually cried. At the age of 6 I hadn't mastered the art of hiding my disappointment yet. I'm an old pro now Smile

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 25/12/2015 04:42

this would irritate me too - the devil is always in the detail. Although if a relative had already got you whatever it was, I suppose they weren't to know and your DH thought there was no point in buying (almost) the same thing again.

But as it was under twenty quid just nip out after Christmas and buy yourself the one you wanted all along.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 25/12/2015 04:45

haha Biffle I can totally understand your indignation!

That would be akin to buying an Everton fan a Liverpool scarf. Grin

slanleat · 25/12/2015 04:56

I remember one time my parents got me records for christmas. Abba and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. I wanted AC/DC and Neil Young.

They couldn't understand why I wasn't happy with the exchange.

BadlyBehavedShoppingTrolley · 25/12/2015 05:13

When i was about 13 high heeled lace up brogues with stacked wooden heeled and slightly pointed toes were all the rage (similar to the ones that are currently fashionable now actually) and I desperately wanted a pair like all the older girls at school.

Everyone I knew had got theirs off the market or from shops like Dolcis and Freeman Hardy and Willis. My mum presented me with a similar pair from M&S which were twice the price and twice the quality but they looked like shoes she would wear, and not the ones all the teens had. I was SO gutted. She just didn't get it. She said but those other sort are cheap and tacky and I'm like 'Mum I WANT cheap and tacky, I'm 13!!!'

But I do the same thing to my DCs now. Blush

CheerfulYank · 25/12/2015 05:34

Tracy I really hope you get your candle one day!

middlings · 25/12/2015 05:44

Our first Chriatmas together, DH asked if I wanted hair straighteners. I was so excited it the GHD (10 years ago!). Not so much with the cheap ones I actually got. They jeer and mock my ungratefulness from a drawer now.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 25/12/2015 06:03

This is why I don't really bother with presents! And never ask for anything specific.

magicstar1 · 25/12/2015 06:27

I once got a Shaking Stevens album instead of an Elvis one...I cried my heart out. I was only six though Blush

MotherOfMinions · 25/12/2015 08:48

Am thinking it's an imitation Pandora bead too
