Adele. (only average singer and songs)

Kylie (only 'talent' is wearing as little as possible)

X factor- always the same

The voice

Strictly

Simon Cowell.

TOM jONES -GREAT SONGS, GREAT VOICE BUT A TWUNT (oops, caps lock!!)

Daniel Craig/newer james Bond

Downton

call the midwife

anything big fat gypsy/Essex/chelsera/Geordie/housewives...

Kardashian.

Jose Mourinho (footy fans think hes a god, but hes a mysoginist and bully)

David Bekham- walking tattoo parlour, throwing toys out of pram when he was playing footy, frowning and thinks that's sexy, always showing his bulge, so obviously after a knighthood as if hes the only person whos ever played footy.

I know everyones got different tatses and things, but the worshipping for all the above (and Im sure Ill think of more).....I just don't get it.

anyone else? or am I just an old grouch? Grin

At least Adele can sing and writes her own songs Kylie on the other hand ... talentless

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 21/12/2015 17:31

Different strokes and all that. I don't 'get' Emma Watson. Never rated her as an actress, and her 'feminist insights' are more like stating the bleeding obvious. However, plenty of young people look up to her, she causes no harm, so who cares what I think?

MistressoftheYoniverse · 21/12/2015 17:33

Exactly Strictly...as irritatingly morose as Adele is...she can sing her arse off and write too...my DD loves her...I think she needs to lighten up...only so many songs my DD can sing (beautifully depressing)...before you want to top myself!!!

laughingatweather · 21/12/2015 17:34

Why do you not 'get' that people like different things?.

It's not a tricky concept.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 21/12/2015 17:35

She has a career over 25 years, puts on an amazing live show, seems a genuinely nice person and she kicked cancers ass!!

Kylie has indeed had a great career and is a top performer, but she did not 'kick cancer's ass'
She had a horrible illness which she had treatment for and was lucky that it worked for her.

Must remember to tell everyone with cancer that all they need to do is kick its ass. Hmm

Dipankrispaneven · 21/12/2015 17:35

YABU. Different people have different tastes. Why do you have trouble understanding that?

Bogeyface · 21/12/2015 17:37

I dont get the adulation of Kylie. How does anyone who hasnt met her know whether she is a nice person or not? I dont see why she is any more or less fabulous than any other singer.

And I wish she would stop with the cutesy girly act, yes she is petite and pretty, she is also close to 50 than 40. I think she needs to have a more mature act these days.

HatieKokpins · 21/12/2015 17:38

Then don't watch and/or interact with any of them. Job done. What's the actual problem here?

MizK · 21/12/2015 17:38

Who do you really like or admire? I think you should post that list and invite people to critique your taste.

Personally I really like Adele, Kylie, and the Kardashians. Also find trashy shows like Geordie Shore entertaining. And I don't care if you understand why.

Bogeyface · 21/12/2015 17:40

Kicked cancers ass

I do wish that the campaigners would stop anthropomorphising cancer. It doesnt actually help those who are going through treatment. It really upset my friends mum at it implied that if she fought harder then she would win, when it just doesnt work like that.

ghostyslovesheep · 21/12/2015 17:40

yabu to not understand that everyone like different things - and that you don;t have to agree with everything everyone else likes Confused

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2015 17:40

Yes I think a positive list of things you love and people you admire would be good at this point OP.

PerspicaciaTick · 21/12/2015 17:41

YANBU

NerrSnerr · 21/12/2015 17:42

Horses for courses isn't it? I bet lots of people don't 'get' what you like. The wold would be dull if everyone liked the same thing.

LaContessaDiPlump · 21/12/2015 17:44

Bond, Call the Midwife and Adele are all good. Especially Bond.

I don't get the love over Adele's latest single. You listen to the words and she is basically a creepy talker type. Are we against stalkers or not? Is a stalker ok when it is a female but not male. The melody is ok, it is catchy and very singalongable. But the words are just Hmm

CantSee4Looking · 21/12/2015 17:54

Although it is probably more harrasment than stalking now I am really thinking about.

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2015 17:57

Well it's not the first stalkery song she had produced. And it's just a song, I doubt Adele is really properly stalking anyone in RL.

Travelledtheworld · 21/12/2015 17:58

Agreed.
Apart from Daniel Craig whom I have loved and adored for over 20 years.
Steely blue eyes and dangerous thin mouth.....
But he hasn't noticed me yet.
Xmas Wink

CantSee4Looking · 21/12/2015 18:04

Really Sparlking? not really paid much attention to her music there are aspect of it that really annoys me. Agreed with it being unlikely she is stalking someone in rl but it does seem odd and doesn't entirely sit well for song lyrics. However, that sad there is much worse out there lyric wise.

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2015 18:06

Yes Cant, check out the lyrics to 'Someone like You'.

clam · 21/12/2015 18:08

Bit 'meh' about everything on that list.

However, I absolutely do not get the whole world's (apparent) obsession with Madonna. Vile woman, who has a thin, reedy voice and is utterly up her own arse.

TheOriginalMerylStrop · 21/12/2015 18:13

Such a Grumpy Old Woman post, OP

I don't know anyone who loves all or any of the above

It's all just MOR media fodder which most people seem to be able to take or leave

I'm partial to a bit of Call the Midwife whilst I do the ironing - nice and soporific, and Kylie's a good performer who knows how to pick her material.

SurferJet · 21/12/2015 18:15

Adele always sounds like a 60 year old woman looking back on her life, ( 'when we were young' ) which would be great if she was 60, but she's only 27. She always sounds so bitter & regretful. I dunno, maybe she already feels her best years are behind her, which is so damn depressing. She should take a leaf out of Ellie Gouldings book - at least she's a bit more up beat.
