To think Ferrero rocher is a lazy gift!!

Ferrero rocher are nice I guess, but to give as a gift at a party you've had plenty of notice of...probably being totally U and ungrateful. Boxes of roses and quality street also fall into this bracket of lazy gifts IMO...

I hate ferrero rocher. They would just be re- gifted here. DH hates them as well.

hibbleddible · 19/12/2015 20:20

Yabu

Unless you have a nut allergy, then they are completely appropriate... Chuck em my way if you don't like them.

From guests at a party, wine or chocolate is completely acceptable. In fact I would prefer chocolate! What were you expecting?

knobblyknee · 19/12/2015 20:23

YANBU. Lindt is the minimum acceptable quality for a gift.

TopHat33 · 19/12/2015 20:31

Were you expecting/hoping for?

maras2 · 19/12/2015 20:32

Why have you opened a Christmas present already?

expatinscotland · 19/12/2015 20:33

Give them to me!

GinIsTheBestChristmasSpirit · 19/12/2015 20:45

I love them but never buy them myself because they are expensive for how long they last.

BlueMoonRising · 19/12/2015 20:45

maras2, I didn't read it as being a Christmas gift (Christmas wasn't mentioned) but rather a 'bring something to a party' gift.

Shemozzle · 19/12/2015 20:49

I always get some for a family member as they are favourites of his. This year I ordered several boxes at once to supplement gifts for some other hard to buy distant relatives. Oh dear! I fee I can't give them now. I guess I'll eat them myself and find something else.

Apparently it isn't a common problem.

foxessocks · 19/12/2015 20:55

Yabu if someone came to my house with Ferrero rocher I'd be very happy with that! I didn't know there were right or wrong chocolates to buy. I like quality street as well! And roses but not so much but would still be happy to receive

catfordbetty · 19/12/2015 20:56

probably being totally U and ungrateful

Yes. If you were my friend and I knew you'd written my gift off as "lazy", I would certainly not make the same mistake twice. This reminds me of the poster who would be offended to receive a Christmas card from a multi-pack. What a horribly judgemental world you live in.

OrangeSquashTallGlass · 19/12/2015 21:00

I've bought a big box of them ready to take to a meal I've been invited to! I'm worried now.

What would you have wanted OP?

Sammy1888 · 19/12/2015 21:13

Me and DP are just tucking into our yearly box courtesy of our unusually extravagant Christmas shop. I would love them as a gift! I think the best gifts are things that you wouldn't usually splash out on for yourselves due to the ridiculous price tag although I'm guessing that ideology probably diminishes the richer you are..

MrsA2015 · 19/12/2015 23:16

Basically held a party to celebrate DDS birth as is tradition for us.

Money in envelopes also received. Also a re-gifted gift bag we had bought for BIL 2 months ago...

OP posts:
MrsA2015 · 19/12/2015 23:19

I think it gets to me because it's only close relatives and know us enough to know what we'd like, considering it's for a kind of belated baby-shower. I feel horrid now for complainingBlush

OP posts:
BlueMoonRising · 19/12/2015 23:21

Reusing gift bags is normal, eco-friendly and totally sensible.

MrsA2015 · 19/12/2015 23:29

bluemoon you're right I suppose. I think on the whole I'd have liked abit more effort since its DHs first and he's last of 8 siblings to have a baby. I know I'm being UBlush

OP posts:
Creatureofthenight · 19/12/2015 23:31

Are you now also complaining about reusing gift bags?
I would think there's enough stuff going to landfill without us all having to buy fresh gift bags all the time.

hibbleddible · 19/12/2015 23:47

I don't understand the issue at all with reusing gift bags. It's what they are there for!

Do you also have an issue with money in envelopes? It sounds like might from that post.

mammmamia · 19/12/2015 23:57

I don't get this at all. It's lazy if it's say your close friend or DH getting it for you for Christmas. Taking it as a party gift when you've been invited to someone's house for dinner or even as a gift for a new mother is fine! I would have happily eaten my way through a box while breast feeding, they would have been much appreciated.

mammmamia · 19/12/2015 23:58

Have you recently had a baby OP? Are you disappointed that people didn't bring gifts for tbe baby? Because that I could sort of understand.

whois · 19/12/2015 23:59

One of my friends works for FR! She always brings a Burke box of FR as a hostess gift to dinner parties and stuff. It's done in good humour and they always get demolished. Yum.

whois · 19/12/2015 23:59

Surely everyone reuses gift bags?

honeyroar · 20/12/2015 00:06

I think a lot of the "lazy" gifts mentioned on here are good, safe small gesture presents. I'd rather receive them than some of the more "original" cheaper gifts I've received over the years. At least you know someone will eat the chocs and drink the wine.. I ALWAYS reuse gift bags. It's a waste to bin them. I'm shocked people actually grumble about that!

I love Ferrero Rocher though. I love most chocolate! Too much. I could do with watching more maggot videos for other brands!!
