I like to buy oddball, but nice gifts, for people but I can get it wrong.

I bought SIL this watercolour for xmas which DH says isn't very nice and grolly. I like it and think its pretty inoffensive. I thinking more thoughtful than bubble bath.

Would you like this as a gift?

She's forty and pretty middle of the road.

Oh give it to her. If it weren't for generous gift givers like you there would be no school fete tombola Sad

green18 · 19/12/2015 17:26

I think it depends on the frame and the room it's put in. Could look ok in a french vintage style room in a painted old vintage frame. I like old paintings from charity shops but have to say this particular one is not for me. But, art is subjective and maybe your soil will love it.

SIL!

Buttercup27 · 19/12/2015 17:32

Do you like your sil?

MrsBojingles · 19/12/2015 17:35

It's pretty naff. Not even painted that well, though I've seen worse.

Do you dislike SIL?

BluecasioTG58 · 19/12/2015 17:40

why don't you work on it arts? you could get a spray can and do a bit of graffiti on top to make it more, ahem 'edgy'? Sorry Grin. I love art but this painting not so much.

DinoSnores · 19/12/2015 17:49

Is this a joke? Xmas Grin

If I unwrapped that, I'm not sure I'd be able to hide my crestfallen face quick enough.

YeOldeTrout · 19/12/2015 17:55

I like OP's, presuming it's original art, I'd be fine with that. The others Suck.

I'm 43 and I'd love to get a painting for christmas rather than smell goods, however, that is pretty awful and I think even the older generation would struggle to like it. Sorry.

no73 · 19/12/2015 18:33

Now these are lovely water colours

Sorry OP it's a no from me too.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 19/12/2015 18:41

Hate it and so would my mam who's 85.

Art is very personal though imo.

DingleberryFinn · 19/12/2015 18:43

I have seen similar in pub toilets, styled out with black rococo frames.

seagreengirl · 19/12/2015 18:55

Mmmm it does depend a bit on the frame. It is not to my taste but looks competent enough. I wouldn't put it up though.

Out of interest how much did you pay for it Arts

wonkylegs · 19/12/2015 19:04

My MIL would like it as it would go in her newly decorated room, however my SIL wouldn't but put a horse in it and she'd love it. I think art is a personal thing and you have to match it to the person, their taste, house etc.
If my SIL bought that for me I'd treat it as a bit of a joke but then she knows that I have quite contemporary taste and I'm a painter so that really wouldn't be my cup of tea.
So it would depend on your SIL really.

Artsmanouvre · 19/12/2015 20:34

A fiver! Its not her main present but OH felt that something as missing.

Was planning an ornate gold rococo frame, dingle

It is an original, not a print, right? That redeems it somewhat. Why not get her this life-changing t-shirt?

You've got it wrong.

That is hideous.

Do you really think someone would be happy putting that on their wall and looking at it daily? Hmm
