To not understand why so many Americans are more scared of Muslims than slaughter from their own people?

I find the amount of support Trump has had both bewildering and frightening. There's been 355 mass shootings in the US this year. However the one that seems to have galvanised people is the one done by the Muslim couple ( the motives of which are still unclear ). There is less call to ban guns than there are to ban Muslims. I guess Trump is just tapping into a vein of fear from people who feel threatened by how things are changing but I just don't get it!

5/11? I love it when people are so irate about things they can't even call them by their proper names.

As for Europe being too soft, I don't recall Guantanamo Bay being a huge success. Do you?
Unfortunately OP, it's not just in the US, there's a small subset of MN posters who sit seething with rage at the existence of Muslims and seek out threads like this to vent.

GloriaSmellens · 18/12/2015 23:06

Maybe because most terrorists seem to be muslim?

Yeah but as an American, you are faaaaaaar more likely to be killed.by a non-muslim (or.even your dog apparently!) with a gun than you are by a Muslim terrorist?

pity why get so sneery over an obvious typo? It's clear what the poster meant

Some odd people about tonight

Moonatic · 18/12/2015 23:15

Where do you get the "more than 100 000 Americans are shot per year" from?
According to the BBC, there were around 12000 killed and 25000 injured in 2015. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34424385
A lot, yes, but less than half the number asserted.

Puffpastry1 · 18/12/2015 23:16

Im probably far more likely to be killed by a bus but it doesn't stop the fact that terrorism is carried out by supposed muslims does it. Back in the day it was the IRA.

IPityThePontipines · 18/12/2015 23:33

Most terrorism in the US is carried out by non-Muslims:
www.globalresearch.ca/non-muslims-carried-out-more-than-90-of-all-terrorist-attacks-in-america/5333619

Also, many spree shooters have specific targets in mind, but due to their race aren't deemed as a "terrorist", as in the case of the Charleston Church shooting.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2015 23:34

Puff do you mean 9/11?
I have lovely American friends who are Muslim. The DH is the least oppressive man you could meet. He's an American first and foremost.

Puffpastry1 · 18/12/2015 23:39

Most of the terrorist attacks at the moment on Europe are carried out by muslim fractions. Not every muslim is a terrorist but the religion stinks and what it stands for does too where women are concerned. I dislike it immensely, its up there and beyond with the hypocrisy of catholicism. I thought that things were moving on in the western world, clearly not.

GloriaSmellens · 18/12/2015 23:43

Yes, but the point is, there is this huge fear of 'Muslims' in general, to the point where Trump in all seriousness suggests not letting anyone of that religion enter the country. When actually there isn't all that.much to fear. Plus as IPity points out, when a white.person does it, its not.called 'terrorism'.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 18/12/2015 23:49

Puff, do you perchance mean 9/11? Or was 7/11 a typo too? It would be easier (though still not possible) to take your nonsense seriously if you didn't get the date of the event you are referencing wrong. Twice.

Also 'Most of the terrorist attacks at the moment on Europe are carried out by muslim fractions'. Muslim fractions? So, what, people who are 1/4 Muslim?

Puffpastry1 · 18/12/2015 23:51

I think this is all about the "white privilige" thing to be honest, yet again! It's really annoying. Am I supposed to beat myself ragged due to being white? really?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2015 23:53

How many people have been killed by anti choice campaigners in the US? How many American minors have been killed by their parent's guns? How many American children have been killed by US citizens while they were at school?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 18/12/2015 23:55

Oh puff you are being contrary.

Puffpastry1 · 18/12/2015 23:56

whatever, im not very good at dates, no big deal.

does splitting hairs get you off shadows, does it make you feel superior?

So they are 100 percent muslim then are they shadows, is that what your are saying?

Blimey you are actually scary.

Puffpastry1 · 19/12/2015 00:02

The only time I do get rather annoyed is when people feel the need to point out something in a derogatory fashion as it helps them feel big. They feed off of others impasses, point them out and call others fools. Bad form.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 19/12/2015 00:09

No, puff, I'm pointing out that fractions doesn't mean the same as factions, which is what I think you meant to say. But who can tell, what with the nonsense you're posting.

'does splitting hairs get you off shadows, does it make you feel superior'? It doesn't get me off, no. That would be weird. Does it make me feel superior? Well I don't usually do it, tbh. And I don't need to do it to make me feel superior to bigoted twats. I'm coming from a starting point of feeling superior to such individuals.

Oh, and I really don't think that pointing out that 9/11 took place on, y'know, 9/11 is splitting hairs. More stating the obvious.

ShadowsCollideIsSurroundedByAd · 19/12/2015 00:14

Hey, this is the first time I've ever been called scary on here though. Clearly in your lexicon where 5 = 7 = 9 and fractions means the same as factions, scary means 'tolerant'.

SummerNights1986 · 19/12/2015 00:14

Fear of the unknown or more unusual. Irrational, but fear all the same.

The same as people who are happy to get in cars everyday but need their smelling salts when they have to get on a plane (me). You know it's irrational, you know that flying is 1000 times safer than driving...but the risks of driving have become 'acceptable' risks because you face them every day, constantly. You become immune to the fear or risks that are always there.

SummerNights1986 · 19/12/2015 00:15

I see the plane/car analogy has been mentioned already...great minds eh?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/12/2015 00:16

Puff. Are ypou saying European terrorism attacks are all carried out by Muslims? If so for what period? This year? Five years? Something else?

claig · 19/12/2015 00:29

It is not the case that Americans are more frightened of Muslims than being slaughtered. But they are more frightened of Isis terrorism than the risk of being slaughtered by lone nutters etc. The reason is that the Isis terrorism potentially threatens all Americans since it is an ideological organised terrorism rather than random lone attacks by unorganised nutters.

Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary, Hilary Benn, said the following about Isis terrorism in what was called his "historic speech" in Parliament

"And we are here faced by fascists," he said.

"Not just their calculated brutality but their belief that they are superior to every single one of us in this Chamber tonight and all of the people that we represent.

"They hold us in contempt.

"They hold our values in contempt.

"They hold our belief in tolerance and decency in contempt.

"They hold our democracy, the means by which we will make our decision tonight, in contempt."

People are frightened by that.

'If It was going to happen it would be most likely by a muslim'. Or me, Puff. I'm Irish, so clearly a member of the IRA .
