I really, really love my dogs but i am sick to death of them rolling in frigging fox poo

Arghhhhh.
Its really pissing me off.

I have 2 large pointer dogs and without fail about 3 times a week one of them will roll in any type of animal poo available, fox, horse, unknown stinky stuff!

I am always on a tight deadline in the morning, Kids off to school by 8, then walk the dogs for 45 mins. I then start work at 9.

I then have to bath the little blighter quickly before 9am.

I can still smell the stuff lingering on my hands, my house has essence of poo about it!!

So bloody annoying.

I've lit candles but I can still smell it.

My 'little darling' recently took it upon himself to gyrate around in a big, sloppy cow shit.

Was a pretty grim clean up operation but still not as bad as fox/badger poo.

L'Oreal because they're not worth it seems to shift most stinks from our dogs. The little one is the worst for fox poo.

The big one is fond of eating oven-fresh cow pat. Cowshit sorbet is also popular on cold mornings.

They are disgusting. Why do we love them?

I refer the Honourable Members to my nn and assure all that I feel your pain most deeply.
I can't imagine what dead crayfish smells like but it can't be good can it Grin
The only thing that helps with mine is to be constantly on the alert and watch for the body language. The dropped shoulder is the first sign with ours and a bellow from the very bottom of the lungs just about stops it. Not always though Sad

Cheap ketchup. The cheaper the better. My pockets are full of those free sachets of the stuff from service stations.

One of the beagles likes wearing this season's latest scent of eau de seagull poo, while the other is fond of a cheeky bit of eau de dead seabird. The only thing that's worked is the ketchup.

The boys have delicate skin although the shit doesn't seem to affect them so I have to be a bit careful with what we use on them, but ketchup washed off seems fine.

And yes, I know, I just wrote about them as if they're people, but fuck it, I'm not the usual MNetter Grin

My dog once rolled in a deliquescing sheep, she had black slime all over her, t'was vile i used half a bottle of dettol to remove the offending filth.

I walk dogs for a living so this is pretty much my life. Just today I had a Lab shoulder-drop into a fresh fox shit. My van will carry the aroma for days. Xmas Angry

Fluffyears · 17/12/2015 17:38

Mine loved a roll in shit, particularly horse or cow and the smellier the better. As a retriever her coat was a nightmare to clean. The vet said it was instinct as they sometimes used to need to disguise their scent for hunting/survival.

My 5 month old lab pup is terrible for this. She discovered the joy of horse crap this week and she thinks it's the best thing ever. I have a horse so used to it but it seems so much more disgusting wiping off a dog!
