Arghhhhh.
Its really pissing me off.

I have 2 large pointer dogs and without fail about 3 times a week one of them will roll in any type of animal poo available, fox, horse, unknown stinky stuff!

I am always on a tight deadline in the morning, Kids off to school by 8, then walk the dogs for 45 mins. I then start work at 9.

I then have to bath the little blighter quickly before 9am.

I can still smell the stuff lingering on my hands, my house has essence of poo about it!!

So bloody annoying.

I've lit candles but I can still smell it.

Love that cartoon MetalMidget!

EponasWildDaughter · 17/12/2015 11:43

Sympathies.

Dachshund and (stinking, green and sticky) duck poo. Every.bloody.time. Like a moth to a flame.

She is probably deliriously happy; rolling in duck pooey clouds in heaven, bless her x

Paintedhandprints · 17/12/2015 11:43

At least it's not your toddler come back from a nice walk in the or woods covered in dog poo.
What do you want us to do about it? I think the tories are already trying to bring back fox hunting so that may no longer be a problem. Swans I think are legally protected species but I hear a few beer can rings lobbed on the water may do the trick. Or maybe take pot shots with a pellet gun?
Ok sorry rant over.
Second outing I have come back from in which toddler has run through or fallen over into dog poo. Angry

SoupDragon · 17/12/2015 11:44

it is the most stinkiest of all the stinks in the world.

I would disagree. SoupDoggyDogg excelled himself one day by doing the Ear Rub in what was possibly once a squirrel, now long deceased.

BINGO!

What do you want us to do about it

I don't believe the OP asked you to do anything about it did they?

my pooch loves a good roll in the dead crayfish which sometimes are to be found on the riverbanks....now that is gross.....

Francescal88 · 17/12/2015 12:23

I second fishybits post - tomato ketchup as shampoo works everytime!

Why do they do it?!

ChipsandGuac · 17/12/2015 12:33

One of my dogs rolled in dead possum and I was heaving when I had to bathe him afterwards. It was so, so gross. Luckily, the other dog is too bloody lazy to roll in anything...except our bed Grin

Babyroobs · 17/12/2015 12:34

I feel your pain too. I have a white Cockapoo and have to watch her every second she is off the lead. Her favourites are black sticky fox poo, dead fish ( which fisherman have discarded at the lakes close to us) and Goose and duck poo, all of which significantly stink. I get so cross with her even though I know it is a natural behaviour for her.

cherrytree63 · 17/12/2015 12:36

One of my lurchers stopped rolling in shite when she had to have a leg amputated, could this be an option for you? Grin
The other lurcher is far too posh.
But the terriers.... I've had some very strange looks for rolling them onto their backs and pulling then through the wet long grass before they are allowed back in the car!

lampygirl · 17/12/2015 12:43

My Bernese loves it. She has to be washed outside but I think she secretly likes that too. It's vile and her fur is so long it is a nightmare to get out. She had to come home from her morning doggy date early this morning because she kept trying to go for cuddles with all the owners rather than playing with the dogs anymore once she was revolting. Devil.

Kingfisherfree · 17/12/2015 12:47

Villianousbroodmare - that just made my day - Bravo!!GrinXmas Grin

Jayne35 · 17/12/2015 12:49

This thread is brilliant! As the owner of a Staffy who loves to roll in various stinking messes I can sympathise too.

villainousbroodmare So funny, I always imagined dogs being disappointed to have all the lovely shite washed off.

metalmidget Thank you for mentioning fox poo shampoo, I am going to search for some online now. That's what my dog will be getting for Christmas this year Grin

pigsDOfly · 17/12/2015 13:05

My dog is small and does a very lady like scrape in grass and then rolls in it.

I don't know what it is but if I pick her up afterwards the back of her neck smells lovely. This only happens in the summer so I'm guessing it must be some sort of herby thing. Obviously I have a dog with taste.

Having said that, she has, in the past, tried to roll in dead rat and dead fish on the beach but a sharp yell of 'get up' from me always seems to stop her in her tracks long enough for me to grab her. Somehow though, I've never managed to be quick enough to stop her eating sheep poo. Disgusting creatures.

drinkyourmilk · 17/12/2015 13:13

Excellent. I hadn't realised this about dogs. I'm gonna stick to cute pictures!!

ihatethecold · 17/12/2015 13:22

The best thing Ive used so far is Pantene shampoo.
I'm not rating the Animology fox poo one!

Mine will roll in poo at least once or twice a week despite me watching her like a hawk and shouting when I see her start to do the head roll! The worst one is when she decided that as I had told her off the 'prize' must be amazing so she would carry it around in her mouth and when I wasn't looking drop and roll and then pick it back up again and then repeat! I get most things out of her mouth but I definitely wasn't going for that one. For such a pretty looking dog she is disgusting when it comes to rolling in and eating dead things or poo.

Kaytee1987 · 17/12/2015 14:43

Mine loves rabbit poo, rolling / eating whatever. Also loves chasing huge heards of sheep when I wasn't quick enough to get him on the lead Blush he's only 8kg and 16 yo, I was quite impressed that the sheep ran tbh. Got to love them and their weird ways Grin

Noofly · 17/12/2015 14:48

I once started a thread (under my old name) offering my dog up to anyone who would have him (not really, was lighthearted) after he rolled in human poo. God almighty that was awful. I'm assuming one of the fishermen from the reservoir had gone in the woods. My dog was gone for ages- I almost thought he was lost- and then he came crashing through the undergrowth looking very proud with himself.

I'm OK cleaning off fox poo, but the human poo was a step too far for me.

MuttLover · 17/12/2015 15:05

I feel your pain! My two small dogs used to do this all the time but I've cured them of it completely. I put a remote controlled spray (not shock) collar on each of them. Works a treat. I watch them like hawks and recognise the indicators that they've found some fox poo and are about to roll in it, and I give them a quick spray with the remote and they leave it alone. I'm 100% positive that it doesn't hurt or distress them in any way, or I wouldn't do it. It just brings them up short in a 'what the hell was that?' sort of way, and it's enough to make them stop and move on. I would highly recommend it. As a bonus you only have to do it once or twice and the dog remembers and starts avoiding the stuff of their own accord.
They come in citronella and unscented and the unscented works fine (the citronella is quite pungent and I don't like it).
Wish I'd known about them from the start!
Hope that helps! : )

My worst experience was when my lovely boxer decided to chew on a dead pigeon's leg, I thought it was a twig and decided to take it off her. Envy
