We originally moved to east anglia fir job reasons. DH and I bought our house without origanally considering schools- they are quite bad. We have family and friends in Yorkshire.

Can anyone suggest an affordable (I. E not york or harrogate) northern town? Ilanyehete north of Nottingham and south of Scotland is fine by me!

Also, has anyone relocated and changed everything? The idea of both of us changing jobs, dc chabeing nursery etc is a little terrifying!

www.locrating.com/

Try this website. Seems helpful for locating depending on rating of schools.

OP- we are sort of in a similar situation. Live in east anglia, currently renting, landlords just sprung they are going to sell in new year due to new buy to let tax laws. We can't afford to buy where we are, or even rent something similar as prices have gone crazy. We have family and friends somewhere much cheaper with excellent education system, and I think we're going to take the plunge and move too. It's really daunting- Dc settled, wonderful childcare, near other family. I think it'll work out long term but God I'm terrified! Haven't slept since finding out... So good luck OP, you're not alone!

Darlington is nice and so is the countryside around it and definitely in your price range but there is a shortage of school places and getting into the good schools can be tough. We moved here for work so had no choice but have had issues with school places (although DSs school is fab just a bit of a drive away) and it looks like it's going to be a problem at secondary level too. House building with no investment in infrastructure is turning out to be a problem for the borough.
