To ask you if there were to be a vote tomorrow on whether or not we should become a Republic country, how would you vote?

Very long thread title... but just interested to know, if tomorrow it was announced that we all have to vote on whether to keep or abolish the royal family, how would you vote? Yes to keep. No to lose.

Our head of state should be elected and accountable to the voting public. It should not be handed down within one family regardless of whether the person next in line is in anyway suited to the job.

ohbehave no, of course she's not doing it for the money. She's already obscenely wealthy. She's hanging on to the power, glory and privilege, people worship, all the grovelling forelock tuggers.....countless reasons why people want to hang on to extremely privileged positions. Money doesn't come into it when you're already extremely wealthy.

Anyone that swoons on about the Queen being such a treasure annoys me greatly. Swap her with a pensioner in a high rise in Hackney surviving on a pittance of pension, and test her mettle.

If we didn't have the monarchy we wouldn't have the aristocracy and we wouldn't have a cabinet of millionaires.

We are living in a plutocracy and one way to resolve that it getting rid of hereditary privilege.

ohbehave no they aren't the peasants, we are. No we aren't really, but they think of us that way. I shouldn't really have to explain this., but in a nice way, you seem a bit naive. But you're saying I hate the royal family, well judging by some of these posts, there seem to be a lot of us, so don't single me out please. But no, I really don't hate them, I hate what they stand for. Please don't presume to know how I feel. How do you feel about them. Do you just love them?

ohbehave saying the royals don't hate the working classes is like saying Cameron doesn't hate the working classes either. Most people just know he does. The royals aren't any different.

Compos appalling isn't it, this is what they mean by the queen being ^tnrifty*. Certainly thrifty, but only when it doesn't apply to herself.
I don't presume ohbehave, there's your proof up above, or do you think they are the actions of a queen who cares. Its something most of us realise, or are you presuming that she does care. you'll be telling us next David Cameron cares. Confused what a strange notion.

Start off by cutting right back. Princess Beatrice etc need to get a job and no title.
