to be sceptical about man made climate change

.. to a layperson like myself the evidence does not seem robust (record antarctic ice caps) .Even if it were true 'the climate' is such a complicated thing affected by thousands of factors. Is it likely that changing just one or 2 of the factors that are within out control would make a difference (or even that the difference would be in the right direction)
Do you still believe in man made climate change or think it is mainly rooted in politics?

claig are you hoping to convince us you are right by admitting you no nothing?

You are literally worse than Jon Snow.

claig · 13/12/2015 17:49

'Then you don't get to have the right to an opinion on this subject.'

I am happy to take the scientific arguments of the likes of Pies Corbyn, PuzzledandPissedOff and FreeWorker1 who know far more about the science than me. I think politics lies behind it, not science.

Furiosa · 13/12/2015 17:50

no = know

claig · 13/12/2015 17:50

'You are literally worse than Jon Snow.'

But Jon Snow believes in man-made climate change, I can't be worse than him.

claig
You are not an expert on politics.
You are a researcher for Katie Hopkins

and you are totally scientifically illiterate.

Your grandchildren will hold you to account and be ashamed of you

'You are not an expert on politics.

Thank you for the compliment, but alas I am not.

CoteDAzur · 13/12/2015 17:54

You are only happy to take the arguments of very few people who agree with your misguided presumptions.

claig's way:

  1. Form preconception.
  2. Google oddballs who agree with said preconception.
  3. Think you are right.

The rational way:

  1. Research
  2. Understand for and against.
  3. Form opinion.
claig · 13/12/2015 17:56

'I know a lot more about the science than you do. Are you happy to take my arguments?'

I am happy to take your arguments which is why I don't argue on the science with you because you know more about it. But, I think you are wrong and that if I spent weeks studying all the climate sceptic scientists I could prove it to you, but I haven't got the time for that and it is pointless since I already know that it is based on politics and is a scam. I believe Piers Corbyn who says it is a scam and who is a scientist and has looked into it and makes a living forecasting weather.

CoteDAzur · 13/12/2015 17:57

"I don't argue on the science with you because you know more about it. But, I think you are wrong"

HOW?!?!

How on Earth can you think "you are wrong" about a person you admit knows more about the subject than you?

why do people mistrust the opinion of experts on a subject and instead believe people who quite often admit their ignorance of a subject?

sarah palin or 99% of the experts on climate change

jenny mccarthy or 99% of doctors/ scientists on immunisation

who to believe?

Furiosa · 13/12/2015 17:58

claig you're argument looks like this:

You have been drinking a bottle of vodka a day for a while now but get mad when the Government increases tax on alcohol. All the while you are under the impression the alcohol you daily consume is passing harmlessly through your liver because POLITICS.

For whoever just said that 'The issue that is never discussed by climate change scientists is that if CO2 increased in the atmosphere then plants would grow quicker'...

it took me under a minute to find that actually they discuss it rather a lot:
here, for instance.

Just because you don't know something doesn't make it unknown.

Oh, the ref above finds that unfortunately the algae don't relish the prospect.

claig · 13/12/2015 18:01

"How on Earth can you think "you are wrong" about a person you admit knows more about the subject than you?"

Because while I know little about the science, there are people who do know something and I believe that Piers Corbyn, for example, and there are many other scientists who are in the same boat, know more about it than Ergo.

Okaaaay.

So we are once again arguing with someone who just knows something is right/wrong/scammy because, well, because.
Yep, that would be religion, not science.

Lweji · 13/12/2015 18:01

I believe Piers Corbyn who says it is a scam and who is a scientist and has looked into it and makes a living forecasting weather.

But you don't believe all the other scientist who say it's real and make a living out of forecasting weather?

That makes sense.

'Why do you think I am wrong?'

Because I believe that it is a cooked up political scam and therefore arguing the finer points of 0.04% of a degree misses the point. If I thought it was worthwhile doing that, then I would study it, but I think the big picture lies in the politics.

'why do people mistrust the opinion of experts on a subject and instead believe people who quite often admit their ignorance of a subject?

sarah palin or 99% of the experts on climate change

jenny mccarthy or 99% of doctors/ scientists on immunisation'

Because people believe different things. Why does Sarah Palin believe that, why does K=Jenny McCarthy believe that and why do other people believe them? Because people are different and believe different things.

claig · 13/12/2015 18:06

Ergo, do you think you know more about it than Dr Piers Corbyn?
