Was randomly watching a C4 show the other night "That's So Last Century".

They have slebs on talking about technology from the 1970s onwards - so things like Walkmans, the first massive mobile phones, BBC computers on which you mainly played Pac-Man - etc.

I thought about recording it for the dc to watchth. Thought they might find it mildly amusing and most of the celebrities were actually showing these gadgets to their young children and part of the interest in the programme was how the kids really had no clue what, for instance, a video cassette was.

Anyhooo, Jimmy Carr's comments were all, without fail, about porn and the internet. Everything was a cheap crappy joke about "cracking one off" and boners and all the other mindless Inbetweeners type comments you could imagine.

So I decided not to record for the dc (shame) but felt especially sorry for the celebs whose children who had participated in the programme. Do they show their sweet little children this show they had been in or not??

Creepy Jimmy Carr wanker.

Unfunny creep. He makes me vom

nippiesweetie · 10/12/2015 23:42

Years ago I watched him deliver the punchline, 'And then I raped her.' Despise him. Creepier than a rain forest.

fresta · 10/12/2015 23:42

I agree Op, I saw this and his comments were completely at odds with the rest of the show- very odd that the programme makers kept them in.

celestialgin · 10/12/2015 23:43

Oik? Are you Enid blyton?

OhYeahMama · 10/12/2015 23:44

Firecrotch is that the same Jason Manford who was caught sending naked pics of himself to porn stars and having internet sex...!!!! Two sleazy creeps. Ugh. Imagine their conversations in private.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 10/12/2015 23:46

YABU. He's not to everyone's taste, but he's very quick and actually mostly funny with his one liners. It's obviously just a 'show', I've heard several times about how nice he comes over beyond the act. Suggesting he'll be 'outed as a weirdo' down the line is very rude - what exactly is meant by that? You really cannot moan about adult language on a programme after 10pm either! Maybe Milton Jones is more your thing - 'couldn't offend a nun' type comedy? Obviously you don't like JC, perhaps in future, if he's billed in a programme then avoid it. Though thanks for reminding me that Big Fat Quiz of the Year will be on soon, can't wait Smile.

Bakeoffcake · 10/12/2015 23:47

He makes my skin crawl too. We were once given one of his DVDs. We didn't finish watching it and threw it straight in the bin.

He does seem ok on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown but as someone else's said, that's because he's edited and scripted.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 10/12/2015 23:48

He makes me vom

I suggest you seek medical advice, if a human you can quite easily avoid makes you 'vom'....

hazeyjane · 10/12/2015 23:50

I have seen him do some great political satire, and very clever funny stuff.

However, maybe I am not bright enough as I fail to get the irony in his rape jokes and jokes mocking disabled people. It seems a shame that this is what leaves the nasty taste in the mouth.

Bakeoffcake · 10/12/2015 23:51

Its obviously just a "show". Yes we know that.

And the fact he makes jokes about rape and child abuse makes his "show" disgusting.

AskBasil · 10/12/2015 23:58

No, YANBU

He's really creepy.

Telling the jokes after the watershed, doesn't make him any less creepy. He's creepy before 10PM and after 10PM. He's just creepy.

RudeElf · 10/12/2015 23:58

His material is so lazy. He was funny once, a long time ago. He needs to switch it up or he runs the risk of becoming frankie boyle/jim davidson.

UnGoogleable · 11/12/2015 00:06

I got this far before I realised you were talking about Jimmy Carr and not Alan.... Aargh. I'm glad, because I quite like Alan Carr!

Jimmy Carr on the other hand - he just comes across as a very awkward man.

elvisthehamster · 11/12/2015 00:16

rudeelf I am pretty sure either Frankie Boyle used to write some of Jimmy Carr's material or the other way round.

RudeElf · 11/12/2015 00:40

rudeelf I am pretty sure either Frankie Boyle used to write some of Jimmy Carr's material or the other way round.

That makes sense! I knew they were too alike. Yuck.

AntiHop · 11/12/2015 00:44

Can't stand the man. Misogynist. I don't care if it's an 'act'. What he says is nasty and harmful to women.

sleeponeday · 11/12/2015 00:45

I remember seeing him on some quiz show, sniggering about some woman, who'd committed the cardinal sin of being poor, working class, and naive. He found that simply hysterical.

Still, it's a change from rape jokes or child abuse jokes or disability jokes. And tax dodging. And he's a healthy, rich white guy who went to Cambridge, choosing to sneer only at those in more vulnerable positions than himself, while shielding the cash necessary to shield them from destitution, so he could double his millions in personal spends.

Lovely man? Yeah. I'm sure.

stareatthetvscreen · 11/12/2015 01:09

lovely man - well he hides that well

FireCrotch · 11/12/2015 01:16

Yes the very same one Mama. As "nice" as he is I'd not trust him in the slightest. His dp must be counting the days til his next scandal.

bessiebumptious2 · 11/12/2015 01:50

I couldn't really care less about whether he's politically correct to women, men, dogs, stupid people or the Pope. He's just not funny. But he used to be. He's just nasty and is trying to be the next Chubby Brown (who is equally as objectionable).

Fratelli · 11/12/2015 06:18

I think you just shouldn't watch him then. It's clearly an act like the majority of things on tv. Yes sometimes he goes too far but he's a successful comedian and many people like him. I suggest not watching his programmes or booking tickets for his gigs.

Roystonv · 11/12/2015 06:44

I admit, I have not watched the show but my son went to see him and for what it's worth he stayed around long after the gig chatting to people and went to the bar and carried on being friendly and sociable. None of the celebrity rushing out the stage door avoiding/looking down on those who make his living possible like so many others seem to do. Please bear in mind that in all tv many people behind the scenes put a programme together and approve the content, you are not privy to how he was directed and if was not what they wanted he would not have performed that way.

mommy2ash · 11/12/2015 07:00

I love jimmy carr went to see him last week was the best night out in ages. It's actually a great social experiment he says things you would never on paper think are funny but for that split second before you can get a hold on yourself you crack up. Well obviously not everyone going by this thread but with the success he has had plenty must think he is funny

mummytime · 11/12/2015 07:09

DH and I can't stand him - never have from the first time we saw him at the Royal Variety Show - and he made such nasty jokes about the Queen (she of course has to sit there and smile through it all).

There are much better comedian's out there, and I wish he was off the screens for good.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/12/2015 07:16

I went to a 10 o clock live recording and he was great. During the adverts and before and after he came over to chat to the audience - down to earth and friendly. Very polite to people too.

He was also very good on that show series, he was on with other funny but more political comedians and he fitted in well - no rape jokes or child abuse one liners. Just acerbic comedy.

He's a very clever comedian. I absolutely hate mysoginistic 'jokes' and I don't think he believes them - I think his goal is to make people laugh at things they shouldn't and don't want to and thus challenge what they think.

I choose not to listen to his rape and child abuse jokes as they're not for me.
