To suggest that ff babies are generally more content than breastfed babies?

...because they are fuller for longer?

Following on from an article I read recently regarding a study that suggested that of its recipients, the ff babies were generally deemed to be more calm, easy to settle to sleep etc than breastfed babies.

I know this is bound to be a taboo subject, but I must say, as a breastfeeding mother myself to a 4 month old dd, I have considered whether she'd be more satisfied on formula. She's not the easiest of babies and, to me, seems fussier and more demanding than her formula fed peers.

For example, she is really hard to settle to sleep for naps. She will sometimes feed to sleep, but not always (I know this is a debate on itself). I have never been to the shops or out for a walk for half an hour without her fussing (even if it's just for a little bit). She will sit on my knee or go to someone else for five minutes tops before fussing and starting to cry.

I'm not doubting the benefits of the quality of breastmilk, obviously. I guess I just feel like I'm filling up a tank that's emptying as quick as it's filling^^ and that she's never fully satisfied. I know breastmilk is digested quicker, but still.

She has no issues re: reflux, tongue tie or anything either.

Of course there are behavioural differences amongst all babies, but as a general rule, what is your opinion? Interested to hear from anyone who has perhaps breastfed one baby and formula fed another.

Read what I said

The health visitor told me that.

Do you understand what analogy is?

TaliZorah · 09/12/2015 21:13

I asked you to back it up with evidence but you haven't. If you had any you would have, sanctimonious bfers are usually the first to pull out the papers to back up why they're better for breastfeeding

Sharoncatastrophe · 09/12/2015 21:13

So you don't knew either, do you Tali? So I'll probably take the years of hands on experience from the people who said it over you. Well, I already did to be fair.

midlifehope · 09/12/2015 21:13

Yabu I have a very mellow satisfied baby who is ebf. He was 11 1/2 lbs at birth and is now three moths and 15 lbs

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/12/2015 21:15

Health Visitors say a lot of things which are in fact, incorrect. Unless a paediatrician says it, with peer reviewed evidence to support, I'm not inclined to take much notice.

Surprised someone as right on and clued up as you does either, Sharon Wink

Maybe the same HV who told me she would have failed her job unless I continued to BF despite a hungry baby and black nipples.

Owllady · 09/12/2015 21:18

I really fancy a chicken bhuna and a bottle of cobra now!

TaliZorah · 09/12/2015 21:18

Sharon that's not how logic works. You can't pull a statement out your arse and claim because I can't disprove it its true.

There's an alien sitting in my yard. He's invisible and likes to drink vodka.PROVE THAT THERE ISNT.

FattySantaRobin · 09/12/2015 21:19

Could be the same health visitor who told me to put my 18 week old on a diet because he's too big. (He's not, he was 10lb 10 at birth)

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/12/2015 21:20

A HV told my friend that the fact her baby wasn't rolling was a red flag for autism. The baby was four months old at the time and rolling isn't even a recognised developmental milestone.

Yeah, cracking advise there.

Sharoncatastrophe · 09/12/2015 21:21

I'm not saying the HV is right or wrong. I'm saying the OP suggested FF babies are more content (which in my own experience, they do tend to be) because their tummies are full, and my HV agreed with the OP, using the beer and curry example.

FattySantaRobin · 09/12/2015 21:21

My friend got told her DD would end up with crowded teeth because she had none at 8 months old.

Owllady · 09/12/2015 21:22

There is an alien sitting in my garden too

Sharoncatastrophe · 09/12/2015 21:22

Oh look, There is a new statement - that all HV talk crap. Careful, Tali will remind you you can't make statements like that unless you have peer reviewed evidence they said it soon. Tsk.

TaliZorah · 09/12/2015 21:23

owl lets invite them round they can have a tea party!

FattySantaRobin · 09/12/2015 21:24

I want an alien Sad

unimaginativename13 · 09/12/2015 21:24

I would be asking what type of curry - that's the deal breaker for me

GloriaSmellens · 09/12/2015 21:24

I really don't understand how anyone with a child over the age of about 1 gives a monkeys about how they, or anyone else, fed their kid? Honestly, mine are only 4 and 22 months but it all seems like such a distant memory, I just can't muster up a single fuck about how they were fed (formula by the way if anyone is actually interested!)

My kids are well loved, happy, healthy and perfectly bonded with me. I imagine that if I had breastfed.them, they would be exactly same?!!!

Owllady · 09/12/2015 21:24

There is a health visitor sitting in my garden too

It was me who mentioned peer reviewed evidence.

I don't even get credit for my posts in snide asides!

You stated the analogy as fact because a HV said it, no need to backtrack now.

Cotto · 09/12/2015 21:27

I do exist and I loved BF - it was not easy but once I got started it was a breeze.
Sorry to disappoint Wink
Chuck it all my way- you see I don't actually care at all what you fed your babies on- I only care about mine !Smile

TaliZorah · 09/12/2015 21:28

cotto then don't make sneery comments

FattySantaRobin · 09/12/2015 21:28

Well if you don't care stop being so sanctimonious and stfu. Hmm
