to put extra black bin bag out with neighbours?

Tate15 · 07/12/2015 19:28

Stupid three black bin bags a fortnight!

I have five this week. Neighbours have one or two black bin bags.

I think it's ok to add one of mine to their pile but my daughter thinks it would be a faux pas of the highest order!

And as such she won't be arty to helping me put the bin bags out!

Would you mind? The bags are double wrapped, no holes and only go out in the morning.

OP posts:
Iamnotloobrushphobic · 08/12/2015 09:13

My neighbour regularly puts bags in my bin which leaves the lid ajar and the bin men won't take it if the lid is ajar. I wait until she goes to work and take her rubbish back out and leave it on her driveway. The bins are small and only emptied once a fortnight.
I don't even know why she has so much rubbish as they are a couple with no children and we have 3 children, 2 of which are in nappies with the youngest going through 10-12 nappies each day.
It's plain rude to use other peoples bins without asking first.

Sharoncatastrophe · 08/12/2015 09:15

What councils should be doing is lobbying local and national business' and central government to impose sanctions on those businesses who use excessive packaging, not leaving the responsibility with the consumer.

After all what are your bins full of? Things you've bought, much of which is double/ triple packaged in non recyclable materials.
They're doing a number on us, making us believe it's us being feckless irresponsible wasters. And so many sanctimonious twats fall for it.

sleeplessinmybedroom · 08/12/2015 09:23

We're only allowed 2 black bags a fortnight. It's rarely enough and we have to keep going to the tip.

UmbongoUnchained · 08/12/2015 09:28

Why do you have limits on bin bags? This is mad!!

EponasWildDaughter · 08/12/2015 09:30

We used to have to put our cardboard in our brown wheelie bin in with the garden waste, now we've been given another bin to recycle cardboard separately. (we have 5 different bins now) Yesterday i put all my flattened and folded cardboard boxes out stood neatly inside a whole cardboard box just to make it a bit lighter for me, and the bin men left it! FGS. It only all gets slung into a massive hole in the side of the recycling lorry.

We live in a rural area with a fly-tipping problem and they're anal about what the the bloody cardboard is put out in? Humph.

Rant over.

Wheretheresawill1 · 08/12/2015 09:32

Hahaha waste doctor. I don't think you are even joking or find it remotely funny that we all think it's hilarious

OrangeFluff · 08/12/2015 09:36

No wheelie bins?! I'd be concerned about rats.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 08/12/2015 09:38

Umbongo short answer: We have limits on bin bags because it costs loads to dispose of them, and the council doesn't have loads of money. (Longer answer involving landfill space and recycling targets etc)

UmbongoUnchained · 08/12/2015 09:39

Jesus that's crazy. Do you mind my asking where you live?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 08/12/2015 09:40

Ask them. If someone asked me, I'd say fine. If they assumed, I'd be pissed off.

^^this

We are on fortnightly collections, one black wheelie bin for waste and one blue wheelie bin for recycling. Plus a brown garden waste bin. Larger families can get a slightly larger sized black bin, and single people (or anyone who wants one) can swap to a smaller size black bin. We can put as many extra bags as we want out with the recycling bin - but nothing at all extra with the black bin. They won't even take it if the lid isn't fully closed!

gotthemoononastick · 08/12/2015 09:40

Our council fines people for putting the 'wrong' rubbish in the 'wrong' bins.

We have a selfish person down the road who slinks about in the dark finding other people's emptier bins to dump into.Has also been seen leaving a full black bag randomly on the pavement, half a block away.

If the bin is not shut or has food waste, it is left and you get a fine. This resulted in us not being able to put rubbish out at night anymore.

Thinking of hiding in the hedge with a giant firecracker and sending to u-tube.

diddl · 08/12/2015 09:40

"After all what are your bins full of?"

Here all food packaging can be recycled & there's no limit to how much of it you can put out.

Of course we still have to store it until it's collected though.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 08/12/2015 09:46

I can't imagine there's anywhere in england that doesn't have restrictions on waste, where are you, umbongo ?!

UmbongoUnchained · 08/12/2015 09:48

I'm in Cornwall. Never heard of waste restrictions.

Bounced · 08/12/2015 09:50

Now that we're down to one nappy a day (well, a night) we usually fill one black bag a week. But it was three or sometimes four with two kids in nappies full time. And that was with doing all the recycling that the council can cope with (they don't take some types of plastic or jars / bottles that you can't get completely clean of food as they attract foxes to the open recycling boxes).

So I think the OP's council is being unfair to young families and people with pets. But she should ask before using someone else's bin space.

Sharoncatastrophe · 08/12/2015 09:52

We live in central London and there are no restrictions on how much you can dump provided you can drag it to the communal bins. There is no roadside collection as we're not allowed bins outside our houses

EnjoyTheSimpleThingsInLife · 08/12/2015 09:59

We have a black wheelie bin for household waste (which fits about 3/4 bin bags in) and gets collected fortnightly - but ours is always over full even though we recycle as much as possible. We also have a blue wheelie bin for plastics/glass/tins etc.

It drives me mad all the rules the council make, we always have extra rubbish every fortnight which is our fault apparently.

OP, I'm sure your neighbours wouldn't mind, if you asked them first.

Cockbollocks · 08/12/2015 10:00

We have plastic, paper, glass and metal recycling. I live with a member of the recycling gestapo so we do all of it with bells on.

As a family of five we still have 1-2 bags of waste a week.

But on your original point, yabu if you don't ask. Its just bloody rude. My neighbours sometimes put their garden waste out with our rubbish and it pisses me right off.

diddl · 08/12/2015 10:01

Over here there are different sized bins & you pay according to what size bin you have.

Can also buy a bag that will be taken if you run out of room in yourbin.

Garlick · 08/12/2015 10:09

Am I the only person who runs up to the truck with a last-minute bag I 'forgot to put out'??

Iagreewithmrsdevere · 08/12/2015 10:12

We have just moved, within the same council borough, to a posher area (relatively speaking) At the previous address the rules were very strictly followed, wheelie bin shut, recycling sorted etc and DH was often taking bags to the bin at the bus stop late at night in a similar fashion to several posters on this thread. At the new house they take EVERYTHING! Bags left outside the bin, massive stacks of cardboard, etc. DH reckons expectations of Christmas bonus will be very high but we are happy to cough up when the time comes.

SuburbanRhonda · 08/12/2015 10:13

OP, if your pets are herbivorous you can put their used bedding in your compost bin. I put guinea pig and hamster bedding in ours.

No way would I put cat or dog waste products in with green garden waste.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 08/12/2015 10:16

We struggle with the 3 black bags a fortnight, too, as a family of 7 with pets.

However I have discovered some huge black bags - wheelie bin liners - that are about 2m long and can contain 2 standard black bags Grin

OP, you should ask before using your neighbours dumping place. Imagine if one of them was off work and saw you? They may not appreciate it.

HumboldtFog · 08/12/2015 10:19

Am I the only one who has no idea what you're on about?!

No!

Binkybix · 08/12/2015 10:43

You should ask, definitely!
