Finally ditched our Virgin box after we realised we only use it to watching corrie. Which means no more to licence and no more funding the bbc. Good old Xbox Grin

We can't do anything about that though Dipan other than refuse to buy anything that had ever been advertised or from any retailer that advertised which would be bloody difficult if not impossible.

Dipankrispaneven · 05/12/2015 15:58

Precisely, Queen Stromba. But the fact remains that you are paying way more for commercial TV than you do for the BBC, but no-one every complains about it. And if we forced the BBC to be funded by advertising, not only would we end up paying more via advertising, the quality of programmes would plummet.

ginandjuice · 05/12/2015 21:08

howabout but why would somebody "contribute" when legally they don't have to?? You only pay for things you legally have to so if a loop hole goes in your favour why would you not use it?? Strange people

JohnCusacksWife why does it bother you whether I pay or not to watch it..? You can still watch it either way. Get a grip and keep that attitude for the arseholes in life that sit around mooching while the rest of us work

Fucksake, I assumed I needed a TV licence as I listen to BBC radio (I know, I'm fucking stupid!).
I just realised I don't need one, as I don't watch or record live TV. Tomorrow I'm off to cancel mine, and my Talk Talk TV as I've not had that piece of pish on for months!

SoupDragon · 05/12/2015 21:28

Perhaps you should get a grip and save your attitude for people who deserve it.

jorahmormont · 05/12/2015 21:38

We're ditching our TV licence too. We haven't watched anything live for months - everything is Netflix, Youtube, Amazon Prime and 4oD on the Xbox.

sooperdooper · 05/12/2015 21:39

Maybe all the people complaining that paying the licence fee is supporting a 'paedophile ring' should also boycot the NHS as well since Savile also abused his high profile situation in various mental health and children's hospitals

Sooper - I've heard some odd arguments but that has to be the king of 'em.

southeastastra · 05/12/2015 21:45

i wonder if they could make the bbc ppv, so the people who love it can support it.

the rest can just pay if they want it

i'm in two minds but hate paying for sunday all days sports/religious shows and crappy eastenders and shite in the attic

howabout · 05/12/2015 21:57

ginandjuice it is always a fine line between avoidance and evasion, but I am reassured you are too busy to watch because you are contributing through your labours Grin.

sooperdooper · 05/12/2015 22:03

wasnotonthelist Fail to see how it's that odd, the NHS covered his tracks for years so he continued to raise funds for specific charitable causes so people who say they won't pay the license fee because they feel the BBC corporation covered should take equal issue with the NHS for the same reasons

wasonthelist · 05/12/2015 22:20

Sooper - indeed, but opting out of the NHS is a tad more tricky, isn't it, so that's a pointless and irrelevant argument which I venture to suggest you're only proposing as yoj disagree with their stance on the BBC rather than in any serious expectation people could find a way to avoid paying for the NHS.

Here's a few clues -

Live tv - optional entertainment, easy to boycott.
NHS - vital healthcare, practically impossible to avoid paying for, difficult and/or expensive to avoid using.

You're also presupposing people aren't just as angry with the parts of the NHS that let these things happen as they are with the Beeb.

Your argument just doesn't fly.

JohnCusacksWife · 05/12/2015 23:04

gin, I couldn't give a monkeys what you do. I just think it's hypocritical that so many (not saying you personally) are happy to watch the BBC's output on demand or via other non-live sources but aren't willing to pay for it. if they genuinely don't want to pay for it then they shouldn't be able to watch it, that's all I'm saying.

Dipankrispaneven · 05/12/2015 23:11

People seizing on the Savile issue as a reason not to watch the BBC now are, frankly, being ridiculous.

ginandjuice · 05/12/2015 23:12

JohnCusacks I do see your point, it's an interesting discussion, I am
Enjoying having an sensible debate about it for once.
