They have just bought a house using the 'help to buy scheme'.
Excellent, well done them.
But what annoys me is the, 'people who can't afford just don't try hard enough'.
He's 22 years old and earns £27,000. I'm 40 and only started earning a wage like that 5 years ago. There is no way on earth I could have been saving £500 a month a few years ago.

I wonder if Pretend means the shared ownership scheme, which has been around for many years and I know a lot of people who got onto the housing ladder this way.

Why is this interview absolutely everywhere?

Is it a bad attempt to try and stop young people thinking home ownership isn't the be all and end all? To remind them that they must sink every penny they have and haven't got into a ridiculously priced house to keep the giant pyramid scheme of a housing market going? Is it to reinforce that idea that renting is a horrendous experience and you will be 'of a lower class' to consider it a long term option?

I mean if every young person thought that buying didn't look like a sensible or even possible option then how would all these massive house prices be actually realized?

Or perhaps it is because they sound a bit idiotic and naive. Planted a seed though hasn't it? It's not like the housing market is looking a bit overheated or anything, or that many businesses are downsizing or moving out of the grossly expensive areas and taking the jobs with them.

The comment that wound me up was: It is hard but I don't think it is impossible, as some people make out.

For some people it is impossible.

NoArmani I could call my DB and SIL to find out EXACTLY what it was called but um... I'm eating a yoghurt and I can't be arsed.

Plus I rent so I don't really care about the finer points of what this and that housing legislation is called.

Umm that's kind of what I meant by vitriol, Strawberry. I'm not sure what you are reading in my posts but my knickers are entirely untwisted.

StrawberryTeaLeaf · 02/12/2015 20:38

Good grief, that's not vitriol Confused
