To limit my son's screentime?

I've always felt pretty confident as a parent, gone with my gut. But I'm starting to freak out about whether I'm doing to right thing! I've always limited screen time with my DS, now 8, and almost everyone I know does that - saves it for a reward or an occasional treat.
Then my SIL posts this to my wall
lulastic.co.uk/parenting/10-things-that-are-worse-for-your-child-than-playing-on-the-ipad/ And now I'm like Confused
We are a Steiner family, love nature, always felt okay about limiting but now I feel like I need to change whole philosophy??!
What do you do with screen time?

That's hardly a definitive report, lots of 'mays', 'mights' and 'seems to'.

I never "limited" screen time for my DS. What is that about? Who made it so? The more you "limit" the more they want. It's human nature and just go with the flow.

I think it can be very addactive. I don't really want my son sitting for 5 hours on a Saturday playing COD. I find the internet and my ipad quite addictive and tbh spend too much time on it and on here. But i had the old fashioned active childhood. Kids today have all of these 'screens' from a young age. It worries me.

Not my experience pinot,DD's screen time is pretty limited but she rarely asks to watch TV outside the times when she knows she'll get to watch it. There is no way in the world she would self regulate - sometimes she does but not often, she'd be glued to the TV for hours. How exactly is that a good thing?

Actually, all the research seems to show that technology can be addictive. The more you get, the more you want.

Games are designed to be that way.

Similarly, social media is designed to keep people watching/posting.

Regular breaks from technology seems like a good thing for everyone. Most parents I know accept this and limit technology use.

Another one who doesn’t know anyone who doesn’t limit screen time.
