To wonder how all the people wearing the French flag on FB feel now they've bombed Syria?

So..."everyone" popped a French flag on their FB profile in sympathy with Paris.

Now France has shot over there and dropped 20 bombs on ISIS HQ and training centre.

So...people are happily condoning war really.

Why not all change profile pics to a peace sign?

I know ISIS are bad...but as we all say, violence solves nothing. Nothing.

Have you got anything to contribute to the thread other than home-spun homily and biblical quotation OP?

Or are rationing yourself to one post every six hours?

Grilledaubergines · 16/11/2015 08:45

They've bombed an ISIS stronghold. Good, I'm glad. What should they have done, sent over a basket of croissants? This is a war. Innocent people were killed on Friday. I will keep my flag up.

QuintShhhhhh · 16/11/2015 08:51

Violence is all ISIS understands. They prove this in all they do.

I dont feel I have bombed anything or anybody. Still sympathetic to victims of terror, be they in France, Lebanon, Egypt, etc.

OP, do you really hand on heart think that a regime which is so violent, and treat their own women and children so badly, who exercise violence blindly, should be allowed to reign and roam free?

Or do you think sitting down to chat with them over a nice cup or tea is going to make them see sense? Who do you plan to send for that chat? Russel Brand? Prince Charles? Tony Blair or David Cameron? Take your pick. But dont forget the scones and the clotted cream!

Ladywithababy1 · 16/11/2015 08:53

A PP used the word 'gleeful' about people who show support for air strikes against ISIS. I have never laughed in delight at the death of innocent people - that is the preserve of ISIS and their supporters, people who have absolutely no moral compass whatsoever.

Nobody who has an ounce of compassion or humanity would ever be 'gleeful' in the midst of all this horror - the tricolore on Facebook is not a sign of happiness that more people are being murdered, more a sign of collective virtual handholding for EVERYONE who has been hurt by these vile excuses for humans.

Aliceinwonderlust · 16/11/2015 08:56

"Because the whole concept of changing your PP to a flag didn't exist until Saturday morning and FB will change it to a tricolour for you. That's why. You really didn't know that?

And you didn't previously know, Alice that FB allows you to change your profile picture to whatever the hell you want? Come on now, that's disingenuous to say the least."

As you well Know this isn't about changing PP to actual flags, it's about overlaying for existing picture with a tricolour. No one was changing their picture for a still of a flag because it wasn't a "thing". Doesn't mean they don't care.

Isis is getting its money from somewhere, finding the way to stop the flow of money is what will stop this organisation

ivykaty44 · 16/11/2015 09:06

Isis isn't all about violence, Isis wants wealth and needs money - money is powerful and is what causes the violence to happen.

Helmetbymidnight · 16/11/2015 09:06

The opposite of war is not peace and loveliness unfortunately. It's being invaded, your people being exterminated, your whole way of life finished. The French know this more than many of us.

caitlinohara · 16/11/2015 09:08

I find myself wondering what this will achieve though. I am not opposed to it, but if the solution were that simple we'd all be joining in.

ivykaty44 · 16/11/2015 09:09

As for the IRA peace talks were all very good but they stopped when there funding from a foreign country dried up......

nowirehangers · 16/11/2015 09:12

OP, stop with your gnomic "an eye for an eye" bollockeries and actually suggest how we should stop "bad but .." Isis committing such atrocities.

I'd love to know a way that didn't involve bombing, I really would, so I await with baited breath. Because they're so open to dialogue

Whoknewitcouldbeso · 16/11/2015 09:14

Oh god please someone send Russell Brand over, that's a genius idea.

Unfortunately where there are humans there will be war. I didn't change my profile picture on FB if it helps give my opinion more weight on this thread Confused. I have no answers sadly. There will always be conflicts, murderers, psychopaths and victims and all I'm going to do is watch from a distance and hope that there is some sort of resolution in the end.

MrsTammySwanson · 16/11/2015 09:15

As I said up thread it's hypocritical for the French government to not acknowledge that it supplies arms to the very country that supports Wahhabism and it's extreme ideologies.

It's disgraceful that anyone should die in the name of religion or some made up airy fairy in the sky.

France cannot have it's cake and eat it though. Stop supplying arms to Saudi and stand by your alleged secularist/liberalist ideals.

I didn't change my profile pic but I have no issue with those that do/have

What happened is Paris is atrocious but to look at it in a vacuum only leads to more innocent people dying East through to West. Both sides have a lot to answer for and until the Saudi sympathising stops their cancerous ideology will continue to spread with the help of countries like France who supply them arms.

Religion disgusts me as do the people who follow it blindly without question or intellectual thought.

Timri · 16/11/2015 09:17

Read on BBC that after carrying out approx. 150 raids in France, that they've Friday was planned in Syria.
hands up who's shocked

VeryHungryCaterpillars · 16/11/2015 09:19

I feel relieved that action is being taken against these monsters.

Jux · 16/11/2015 09:27

I would like ISIS stopped.

pilates · 16/11/2015 09:28

Op, where have you gone?

and have one of these Biscuit

MissFitt68 · 16/11/2015 09:29

Wonder how many of them have been killed by the bombs? A good percentage I hope

LittleBearPad · 16/11/2015 09:29

She's working out her next platitude pilates

hackmum · 16/11/2015 09:29

LittleBearPad: "You do understand Summer that ISIS and Syria aren't the same entity"

I've a feeling that Summer doesn't understand that. If ISIS develop the capacity to start dropping bombs on Europe, then we're really in trouble.

So, just to explain to Summer (and others, if need be) - ISIS are fighting the Syrian government. The Syrian government used to be the bad guys, and we (the US, Britain, France, etc) originally wanted to support the people fighting the Syrian government. Now, however, ISIS are fighting against the Syrian government, and because ISIS are even worse, we have to get rid of them first.

Shortly after the uprising against the Syrian government started, apparently Assad released a whole load of Islamic terrorists from jail, knowing that this would happen and that the West's attention would be diverted to fighting IS rather than the government.

SurlyCue · 16/11/2015 09:31

So...people are happily condoning war really.

Err, my french flag was for those that died and their families. AFAIK they didnt bomb anyone. Hmm

Pleurepaslabouchepleine · 16/11/2015 09:34

I'm quite happy with bombing Syria.

I don't have the flag though.

I don't like passive social media campaigning. It is attention seeking by the sharer and ineffective.

If you actually cared, you'd be doing something more active and real world than posting a status or updating a photo.

FrameyMcFrame · 16/11/2015 09:46

Maybe we could pressure the government to stop cosying up to the Saudi's, we flew the union flag at half mast over Buckingham Palace for King Abdullah's death.

Why are we doing that when they are funding IS?

It makes no sense.

All I know is the narrative we're being fed is bogus.
