This afternoon I have taken the children to see the ex at his house.

Shortly before we were going out a young cat walked into the kitchen. Surprising as there's no houses close by, very rural. There's a farm across the road where there's a lot of ferral cats but they run when they see humsns.
She was instantly chased out by the dog and the ex walked outside and kicked her several times to get her to run off. Since then she has followed me whenever I've walked outside, got into my car several times, thrown herself at the back door trying to get in and sat outside and cried. I'm worried if I walk away tomorrow that she'll continue to try to get in and the ex is really hateful to cats. Wibu to take her to a vets tomorrow and keep her if she's unchipped? There no local missing cats on Facebook, I have checked.

Your ex sounds like a psycho! Are you sure you want your children around someone like that? Is there any way you can stop contact?

spritefairy · 16/11/2015 10:53

I'm going to go against the grain here and say just because he is abusive to animals doesn't mean he is a bad dad. My dad hates animals and used to be quite awful sometimes but he was a good dad

Ifoundacatnowwhat · 16/11/2015 11:09

Just to update, I took her to the vet this morning, she's probably about a year old, got fleas and no chip so I've been and bought flea treatment, food, bed etc and my 2 year old is making a huge fuss of her in my lounge! She was waiting. At the back door this morning so very easy to put in a box, she's just as good natured as she was last night. The vet nurse who looked her over said there's every chance she could be ferral and chose an owner.

Your ex is a tosspot :-(

However I do think you should put up posters/post in a local fb group to see if anyone is missing a cat.

One of my cats is a real wanderer, comes home when he feels like it. A few months ago I saw a post in our local fb swap shop asking does anyone know who this stray cat is with his picture up, saying he was starving.

I know our bloody cat sneaks home late at night and eats loads then shoves off again, must do a very good impression of starving!

Turns out these people are FIVE doors down from us. I've explained he's chipped, wormed, de flea-ed etc but I KNOW they keep feeding him - I see him coming and going through their kitchen window/garden.

He's coming home less and less and I don't know what else I can do. His brother and other cat friend from birth are both here and I miss him :-(

If she is feral and has chosen you then you are in for a treat. The freaks who chose us were 3 of the sweetest, smartest cats we've had.

AcrossthePond55 · 16/11/2015 13:50

Freaks??? Where did that come from! Treat!

winkywinkola · 16/11/2015 13:55

You can't exhibit violence to animals in front of your children and be a good parent. It's not possible.

winkywinkola · 16/11/2015 13:56

You're showing and teaching your children that it's okay to behave that way. And that they should accept that behaving that way is part of you, the parent, and that is that.

Thanks all, yes I'm being proactive in trying to find an owner, Facebook ads and phoning local vets but no responses. Seems she's a bit of a food thief, more interested in human food than her own! She also won't go outside unless I go first; then she's back in before me.

O what a little beauty! Have you named her yet?

HelenaDove · 16/11/2015 19:41

Your ex is a Grade A cunt.

My tabby girl is nearly 15 She brings such joy into my life. She chose us She used to live in a flat downstairs.

Shes lovely OP.

SweetnessNshite · 16/11/2015 19:49

Awwwww she's gorgeous! And obviously very wise (and determined!)

And yes, your ex is an absolute cunt. Were the kids upset at seeing him kick a defenceless animal several times? Mine would be distraught to witness such a thing :(

HelenaDove · 16/11/2015 19:51

OP she may need to go to the vet for a check up just to make sure that bastard hasnt done any damage.

SlaggyIsland · 16/11/2015 20:00

Wishing all the shit karma in the world onto your cunt of an ex.
Your kitty is beautiful. I'm so happy you took her in.

NationMcKinley · 16/11/2015 20:08

You're lovely and your new BFF is lovely. I've been "adopted" by various animals, including a starling Hmm all my life. They go where they know they'll be loved.

When are you starting the baby cat name thread? Grin

And yes, you're absolutely right to be proactive in finding out if she does have a home

gamerchick · 16/11/2015 20:16

I know that look... She'll be sleeping across your head all night if she gets the chance.

Good luck OP you've been adopted.

AdjustableWench · 16/11/2015 22:07

She's lovely! And you're lovely to give her a home!

Moreshabbythanchic · 16/11/2015 22:18

I have a boy with exactly the same markings, he also has a tortoiseshell tail. He adopted us and although I tracked down the owner he didn't want him back. He is now totally at home with my other 3 cats, he's a crazy boy but so loving, he likes to snuggle up and hold my hand while he sleeps.

Well done for giving her a home, you will be well rewarded Grin.

Gabilan · 16/11/2015 22:24

He hates cats as he got badly scratched as s child after trying to flush it down the loo

And it didn't occur to him that him trying to flush the animal down the loo was the problem? He didn't realise it was just trying to save itself?

Glad he's your ex but I wouldn't let him anywhere near that cat. Which means he can't be trusted with children either.
