The writer complains that she can't have babies because she resents the idea of moving out of London.

Others in the article complain they can't afford houses and so won't have children.

AIBU to think that yes house prices are mad but if you really 'dream' of having babies then there are ways to make that happen and it's not 'impossible' unless you are unfortunate enough to be infertile (in which case there may be other options if you are willing to consider adoption/fostering).

I have to say the whole thing comes across to me as a bit whiny.

When we were looking at flats in London (13 years ago) all the ones in Hounslow (that were the top end of our budget - 140k) had really low leases so few would lend and we'd have to pay quite a lot to up the lease to sell on. Also a lot of flats had quite hefty monthly maintenance charges.

And remember those who say only 5k each deposit etc, you are forgetting all the fees and costs with moving. When we bought our 'hell hole' flat in SE25 for 139k we had saved 6k over the 3 previous years of renting (which was a lot to us). We thought we would be able to use that as a deposit. But the bank laughed and said that would just cover costs and they were right. We also had to buy all the white goods, furniture and bed. We ended up with a 100 percent mortgage. Then sold it for 124k in the recession.
