I can't be the only person who thinks that?

OP posts:
JoySzasz · 14/11/2015 18:37

"down the with kids" makes no sense though Confused
Anyway, this thread was made out of pure spite.
There are a few too many obnoxious teens on MN today.

MitzyLeFrouf · 14/11/2015 18:40

Unclench OP.

Who gives a fiddler's if people find it 'cringy'. Now 'cringy', that is a shit word.

KeepOnMoving1 · 14/11/2015 18:45

Er there's about a million other 'cringy' phrases not sure why you specifically picked this one out. Must be bored.

I think the word cringe when you mean wince is...well....wincey.

NewLife4Me · 14/11/2015 18:51

I used to use it years back with my students, it used to make them laugh.
Something like It's being down with the kids, that makes me so popular
I never hear the phrase now though, this was at least 5 years ago.

Cringe worthy words? You want cringe worthy words?

MOIST GUSSETS

WeirdCatLadyIsFeelingFestive · 15/11/2015 16:22

OP, just so you know, saying 'down with the kids' in a humourous way is fine

Starting a thread to bitch about a phrase is a bit dumb.

Starting a thread and typing the phrase incorrectly is fucking stoopid!

(And I is down wid the kids, innit)

MadeMan · 15/11/2015 16:26

"MOIST GUSSETS "

DadOnIce · 15/11/2015 16:27

It's intended to be self-deprecating. Like when you find yourself knowing who a particular YouTuber is or listening to Taylor Swift, or something, and you say, "Oh I iz so down wiv da kids."

R0nJ0n · 15/11/2015 16:31

Here is Dave illustrating the phrase perfectly.

Good old Dave; he's great, innit?

MadeMan · 15/11/2015 17:18

Actually if more world leaders were to start throwing gang signs around like our Dave, they could probably rep their cred 100% fo sho.

zipzap · 15/11/2015 17:29

redexpat I came on here to post that link too when I saw the thread title - was in the audience when they recorded it (in MK as they say!) and it always makes me laugh or indeed think of the song when anyone says the phrase...

theycallmemellojello · 15/11/2015 19:12

I think I get where the op is coming from. Down with the kids is a bit if a sneery expression. I find it annoying on mn and in rl when people go on about how not cool yet are in a way that is almost like showing off. Like saying 'I must be really uncool, my idea of a perfect night is staying in with a cup of tea watching strictly...' It gets on my nerves I think because it's almost suggesting that people who have different lifestyle choices are looking down on them, whereas in fact there's no reason to think that someone "cool" would give a shit or be mean/judgey.

AwfulBeryl · 15/11/2015 19:15
