Or is there a compromise?

We currently have a memory foam mattress which I love. We've had it for about ten years and it was expensive, about 1k.

Ive always loved it. Dh thought it was ok in the shop but after we'd had it a few nights he started moaning a bit about it. Reckons it's uncomfy and cold.

He then stopped moaning as I ignored him. He's started up again, he reckons the mattress is a big saggy. I dont think it saggy. However it is old'ish, maybe it's time we replaced it.

But I would want another memory foam mattress and he's adament that he doesn't want one.

Ive previously broken my back and have disc problems. This mattress has made all the difference to my back and the memory foam was the reason for buying it to see if I would be pain free and it worked nearly instantly.

I'm sure I could find a non memory foam mattress which feels comfy enough in the shop when testing it. But I know over time that without the support which I get from a memory foam that my back will get worse. Aibu if I refuse to get a non memory foam mattress?

We've just got rid of our 10yr old memory foam mattress - Dh and I both have back problems (prolapsed discs & sciatica) and there was simply not enough support left in it.

We've ended up choosing a very firm pocket sprung mattress but there were lots of new options that I'd never heard of such as latex and soy (both similar to memory foam but with different pros and cons). We also found quite a few that had pocket springs with memory foam so you may well find a compromise to suit you both.

Good luck!

We had to get rid of our memory foam mattress recently as it was becoming compressed and dh was getting hip pain. Plus it was so hot, we had a 4.5 tog duvet during the winter. In the summer we just had the duvet cover with no duvet inside!

This time we have a Silentnight Mirapocket 1200 Memory 135 bought from John Lewis. In the store it was on a sprung divan base and seemed a bit softer than DH liked, but we were advised that if we had a bed frame with a slatted wooden base it would be firmer; and it is. It is also less hot.

Dunlopillo do latex mattresses, they are supposed to be less hot than memory foam but very supportive, I think Dreams do them.

Jut throwing my opinion in for all that it's worth Grin

I couldn't sleep on a memory foam mattress long term. I think they are horrible uncomfortable! Thankfully my DH agrees so we don't have this problem. I think the most reasonable option is to compromise and go for something in the middle or separate mattresses.
