Facebook related moan warning

Since I've joined mn I can no longer ignore all the yummy mummy posts, the Huns xx , the calling all mummies etc...

You lot have ruined it all. Now when I see them, I can feel my teeth grind just a little.

Nearly every post contains one of the above (sobs)

Bring back my ignorance!!

OP posts:

It isnt a word though is it? It's a misspelt abbreviation of honey I thought.
A pointless endearment that doesn't really mean anything.

ShamelessBreadAddict · 10/11/2015 09:04

It's "just a word" which you called the OP a racist over??? She finds a word, an English word used by people across the whole English speaking world, annoying and you call her racist?

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 10/11/2015 09:04

I'm anglo-italian , so don't feel i have being going around being racist against myself all this time.

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 10/11/2015 09:05

I.e. by disliking use of "hun"

justkeeponsmiling · 10/11/2015 09:07

Maybe you should keep the hun's for your "insta" twizzle

SoupDragon · 10/11/2015 09:10

Yabvu, hun and possibly a bit racist as its part of some cultures to use that term of endearment.

Hahahahahahaha... Racist!.... [wheeze]

MrWriter · 10/11/2015 09:11

God twizzle I hope your kidding. I'm Northern Irish and Hun is used as a malicious term.

Everytime I see it used, I always think of that.

I also hate vague booking, my cousins wife does it at least once a week, drives me nuts. Along with the "Best Mom" "Best dad" "Best goldfish owner" ones [boke]

Senpai · 10/11/2015 09:12

I'm Italian American and hun is used a lot, I do find all the hun bashing quite uncomfortable. Its just a word

Dude... It's used in the South all the time by the most white bread people possible. It's not an Italian thing, or even anything Italians are known for.

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 10/11/2015 09:13

Just looked that one up , mrwriter.

Senpai · 10/11/2015 09:13

BlueJug · 10/11/2015 09:14

I admit hating all the attention seeking FB posts and twee, false "concern" messages. But I also hate being called racist.

Less than 20 messages in on a fairly lighthearted thread and we are racist. It will turn the discussion in to something heavy and serious and there will be pontificating and treatises about the power of language and quotes and examples and accusations and defenses - and suddenly what was meant to be a bit of gentle mockery becomes sour.

That is only on MN

Oddly enough it is my white friends rather than friends of any other race that use "hun" most. Suspect it is age and class related as much as race.

ShamelessBreadAddict · 10/11/2015 09:16

I lived in NI for 18 years MrWriter (American born) and Hun makes me think the same as you! Similarly I couldn't name a DD Milly.

SumThucker · 10/11/2015 09:17

Fucking racist. Jeez.

Senpai · 10/11/2015 09:32

Why is hun and Milly insulting to NI?

HaydeeofMonteCristo · 10/11/2015 09:35

senpai I looked it up and hun is a pejorative term for a protestant (or a German person, which I was aware of).

ShamelessBreadAddict · 10/11/2015 09:37

Hun is a derogatory term for Protestant I believe and Milly is a female "chav" (horrible words both chav and Milly. Even worse really that there has to be a special word for the female variety - don't get me wrong I love NI. I grew up there, as did my parents, I just happened to be born in the USA and now live in England outs self).

PontyGirl · 10/11/2015 09:37

I "hun" with one particular friend of mine over text Blush it's the way we've always spoken to each other. But I will NEVER "hun" publicly Grin

ShamelessBreadAddict · 10/11/2015 09:38

X post. outed self unnecessarily

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 10/11/2015 09:41

Racist! I hate the word "yeast" so now I'm probably offending the baking community right? Grin

Dismalfuckers · 10/11/2015 09:46

YANBU.

I also hate the "share if you have an amazing daughter/son/cousin" shit. Especially posted by people whose children have recently been done for dealing drugs/are just horrible little fuckers.

And the "still awake Sad" ones

However, fb has revealed to me that someone I thought I knew quite well is actually a racist fascist, so i am grateful to it for that.

wigglesrock · 10/11/2015 09:46

It always jars on me as well when I see it thrown around on MN in particular as a snidey put down usually in connection with Netmums. I'm from NI too and I wouldn't use it as a day to day comment. It's a pejorative term used in connection with someone's religion.

wigglesrock · 10/11/2015 09:51

shamelessbreadaddict the male version of a milly is a spide, well it was when I was growing up.

madcapped · 10/11/2015 09:56

I am also italian american and that is a complete bullshit statement! Go and educate yourself about what real racism looks like. You're making us look bad.

ShamelessBreadAddict · 10/11/2015 09:58

Ah yes you're quite right wiggles. Also "steek" (sp?).
