AIBU to think they've got a point, really.

"You can't even put into your own words why you think that meme is relevant, "

Cross post - I just did that.

I am linking to other sources so you know it's credible and not just my opinion. Maybe you should try using google yourself a little.

Or would you like me to put it in simpler language for you? OK.

  • The UK has been involved in several wars recently where we have bombed people, including an alarmingly high number of ordinary people including women and children
  • We are allies with the US who are dropping huge numbers of bombs
  • We are also one of the world's biggest exporters of weapons, we sell them to all sorts of dodgy regimes
  • There are refugees coming from the countries we bombed and the countries we armed.

It would be very unlikely that there was no connection at all between war and refugees in that country wouldn't you think?

I really don't think I am the one who needs things explained. You copy and pasted stuff, then only put it into your own words when challenged. And you believe a friggin meme of 20 or so words essentially gets to the heart of the refugee crisis.

Confused as to why you are telling me to use google. Hmm There wasn't any question about my ability to understand the current political climate. Nor my ability to analyse factual information and not just state my opinions like you did with your meme.

I really don't think you are in any position to attempt to patronise me. Thanks all the same for trying though. Smile

Corygal · 10/11/2015 00:26

YANBU> Most 'refugees', and certainly 99 per cent of the ones in Calais, are young fit men dodging, er, national service. Run by their own countries.

ginghamcricketbox · 10/11/2015 00:26

Well at least we've stll got TRIDENT Grin

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:27

Taking about Putin, this makes very interesting viewing.

Oh, resorting to YouTube now!!

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:31

PaulAnkaTheDog you haven't actually given any opinions about the refugee crisis, you have just had a go at me.

You have not demonstrated any ability to understand the current political climate, nor an ability to analyse factual information.

I wonder why you think this "you believe a friggin meme of 20 or so words essentially gets to the heart of the refugee crisis." I haven't said that once.

So, what is your opinion on the refugee crisis? Do you think it's not linked to war at all? Or do you think that we don't take part in those wars?

howtorebuild · 10/11/2015 00:31

Meanwhile there is a post asking if people could be more tolerant or others.

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:32

"Oh, resorting to YouTube now!!"

FFS.

Have you looked at it?

It's a clip of one of the world's major leaders giving his opinion on ISIS and the West's handling of the situation. Pretty serious stuff.

Maybe try watching it before using it to score cheap points?

Ask Mrs Merkel why she invited every chancer in the western hemisphere to pretend to be Syrian, and answer your'e own question.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 00:35

My political opinions weren't up for questioning, nor my ability to understand the refugee crisis, it was you who posted that ridiculous thing and asked whether people thought it was good. The unanimous answer was no. You then copied and pasted a bunch of numbers to try and support it. I'm not going to start offering my personal opinions because, frankly i can't be bothered and it is irrelevant. The point was you offered no basis for your comments and showed little understanding. What I know or believe is completely irrelevant to what you know or believe.

Enjoy your memes.

OP, for Britain to have caused enough bombing to have displaced the millions of people entering Europe we'd need a slightly bigger airforce than the 200-odd combat aircraft we currently possess, currently approaching an all-time low...

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-33618484

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:41

I have no idea why you think it's ridiculous.

It seems totally logical to me.

  • We take part in wars - sometimes illegal wars - that massively destabilise regions of the world.
  • People flee those regions, to escape war among other reasons.
  • If we stopped voting in war-mongers, the world would have a chance of being a more stable place with fewer refugees.

I can't see anything wrong with that - what am I missing?

"OP, for Britain to have caused enough bombing to have displaced the millions of people entering Europe"

That's a very literal interpretation of the meme, and not how I understood it at all.

I'm not saying we are solely responsible for displacing millions of people, by dropping bombs.

I am saying - and I think the meme is saying - that we have played a part in this by going to war (e.g. in Iraq - surely most people agree the way it was conducted was illegal now?) and that if we keep voting in warmongers there will be more wars, and more refugees.

Plus all the weapons they sell to dodgy regimes - are you comfortable with that?

OP posts:
ginghamcricketbox · 10/11/2015 00:46

OK we all vote for Anjem Chourdry as PM are you happy now?

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:47

Did anyone bother to watch the video of Putin?

OP posts:
ginghamcricketbox · 10/11/2015 00:52

As it stands there are three people standing up to the invasion of Europe, Mr Orban , Mr Cameron and Mr Putin.

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 00:59

the level of political debate in AIBU is scintillating these days, isn't it Hmm

I'm all up for robust debate, but this isn't debate, this is just people mindlessly chucking insults.

Are you all aware that the refugee crisis is quite possibly just the beginning of mass movements of a huge section of humanity? We're in very uncertain times, given the number of wars, the global reach of armies and terrorists, and - probably most importantly - climate change.

We're going to see a hell of a lot more of this, and anything we can do to lessen the numbers (I mean like refraining from starting new wars, not building fences) can only be a good thing, and worth talking about surely?

Or, let's just score points off each other while we ignore the disaster unfolding in plain view, shall we.

OP posts:
wigglylines · 10/11/2015 01:02

You call people fleeing for their lives - and many of them dying in the process - an invasion?

WTF?

Some seriously messed up thinking there!

OP posts:
dementedma · 10/11/2015 01:19

Try running your theory that British Troops didnt risk their lives helping both Iraqui and Afghan forces and civilians to rebuild their communities, train them to be able to defend themselves and used military medical skills to save lives in desperate situations past a few friends of mine. They don't all have their full complement of limbs but I think they could still challenge your belief that they were war mongerers.

wigglylines · 10/11/2015 02:00

dementedma I have absolutely no doubt that some British Troops risked their lives helping to rebuild

The war mongers I am talking about are the politicians, not the individuals who are following orders (or not as the case may be).

It's well documented that the US and UK didn't have a proper plan for what to do to rebuild after the invasion of Iraq.

OP posts:
wigglylines · 10/11/2015 02:01

Sorry, that should have said "helping to rebuild at local level "
