to get a tattoo for DH for his 40th? I know nothing about tattoos!

To clarify, it would be me getting the tattoo!

On holiday this summer I got a henna tattoo of DH's name on my arm to freak out my mum (it worked, was v funny). But DH, unexpectedly, was so touched that I had chosen his name - he loved it. I loved that he loved it and I was a bit sad when it faded.

Neither of us have tattoos or have ever wanted them prior to this. Would it be mad to have a real one? He's not 40 until next year so I have a while to make my mind up.

Where could I have it that would be invisible when I was dressed (or happened to be wearing a ballgown)? I'd like his name in a retro heart. It is not a very cool name (kind of like Dave) but I think that would be kind of cool too.

(BTW, not planning to divorce him, he's lovely).

Is it a stupid idea?

I know someone who had a ladies name tattooed on their arm
Alice
When they broke up put
Not as great as I thought underneath
:)

For the Alice tattoo, I'd have been tempted to get 'Who the fuck is' tattooed before the name instead. Or maybe 'doesn't live here any more' after?

I would never get a tattoo, least of all a name one, but I can totally see your rationale for wanting to, and think it's quite sweet. It sounds like he would really love the gesture, and you want to do it. Winwin.

And am surprised at the number of people so adamant that you shouldn't get a name. In the unlikely event of a break-up, how hard is it just to colour over the name and create something new - am I missing something?

I can't think of anything worse than walking round with my DH's name tattooed on me and no he isn't Keith or Brian. It would be like I'm his property or something, but there again I don't have nor want tattoos!

How about a garter around the top of your leg.Get your dh name in fancy writing incorporated with the garter.

Or even get some flowers with the flower or birthstone of his birthday instead of his name.
