I had the radio on this morning, and there was a sad piece about the number of children in the county who would wake up homeless.

Then later I discovered that these stats were misleading, that the 'homeless' children were included in cases of overcrowding, so children sharing a room for instance.

I can't read the guardian any more, the BBC is biased from threads I've read here.

I don't know whether the kids company thing has made me feel as if I just can't trust any stats, any piece of information , any claims by charity. I've cancelled all my direct debits as I just feel like everyone is lying to me and I'm sick of it!

AIBU, and cynical/jaded?

YANBU. I think you need to regard the news as a form of entertainment rather than as objectively reported information. After all, they are trying to make money.

YABU, OP, though I've not RTwholeFT,. Living in overcrowded temporary accomodation IS being homeless.

A child/adult shouldn't be sleeping on the pavement to get our empathy and help.

Leavingsosoon · 03/11/2015 06:12

How rude squidz. I have said several times that I know children don't as a rule live in the streets which is why I assumed B & B accommodation.

I know my county very well (as I live here) and it did seem on the high side to me which is why I questioned it.

eleven I wasn't talking to you with that comment. If someone is sleeping on towels as autumn trudges into winter blankets seemed a reasonable 'want.'

I think you're right viv

leaving, I know you weren't talking to me. My point is that the pp who is homeless needs a fair and equal society which needs to be funded by higher taxes. Offering blankets is ridiculous, its not the solution.

Leavingsosoon · 03/11/2015 06:56

Double the taxes!

Triple the taxes!

But we aren't a low tax society. We have the NHS, flawed as it is, we have a welfare state, flawed as it is.

Anyway ...

Not for long because its underfunded.

I grew up living in one room with my mother and siblings in temporary accommodation. We were classed as homeless then and still would be now.
I have only read page one of the thread as rushing to get ready so the OP might understand it better now.
People 'sofa surfing ' or living in cars or tents are also classed as homeless despite having rooves over their heads.
