To not be in when the midwife calls?

Not to be contrary, just a practical question.

It's the first day home visit, but dd actually be nearly a week old. She had antibiotics but left neonatal to stay with me on postnatal, so I've been checked twice a day on ward rounds. Lovely birth, 48 min labour, no tearing, easy feeding etc. I'm happy and fine.

I have a few places I need to pop out to tomorrow (appt for other dd and shops) two short trips. So there's a chance I could miss her as she could come between 9-5, or even the next if previous track records....

Dh would be in with baby who's mix fed, dd was checked sideways before discharge and Dh is more than competent with her.

Do I need to be in as the mother for any reason? I'd attend all subsequent appt.

It's personal and identifying why I'd rather take other dd to appt rather than Dh, but it's valid and non- controversial.

Boysclothes.

That's usually enough info for most people!

Many wont even give that much...

I had the opposite problem - the day after I was discharged from hospital I had no idea whether the midwife was coming or not, and she turned up just as I got out of the shower! I had to throw my pyjamas back on, and just after the midwife left my partner's parents arrived and so I ended up not getting out of my pyjamas all day. Such fun.

Ah well. If you lived in USA you would have to get yourself to your obstetrician's office for your post birth checks, and take your baby to the paediatrician's office for the baby checks.

It is perfectly possible to inform the relevant people that you don't want any post birth domiciliary care.

Well as an update, it really wouldn't have mattered if I was out.
Apart from blood spot it was minutes. I'm clearly fine, and she simply asked, past the point where you'd check uterus etc. no weighing of baby as day five was in hospital. Basically she looked at a wrapped bundle, stuck a foot out and that's that.
I couldn't have contacted her as she's from a different trust to the one I birthed in. Luckily we caught each other

Hope your DD's audiology appointment went well too Smile

Yea thank you, teacher of the deaf, nursery, efys parent support and clinic all planned for nursery which is good to know. I was always passing on messages and getting conflicting advice! Dd speech has come on a year in three months :-) it was at the level of a 12 month old in the summer but now she's interacting pretty well
