Is it inevitable and if so will it affect everyone? what a massive worry to all of you who are going to be affected. My DD works 16 hours a week and has 1 child. She'd love to do more hours as her child is at school but isn't able to. Can anyone give me any idea how much she'll lose, and when? I'm so worried for her because I know without these tax credits they'll be barely able to eat and keep warm. How can these Tory bs sleep at night?

I worked out last night it would cost me roughly £500 a week in childcare (DC aged 3 months, 2,4 & 7) to work 40 hours a week in a NMW job 40 mins commute away. I couldn't balance the books although I would have loved to apply for the job.
Childcare is a huge barrier to work (for me anyway). Also from a financial perspective I would be claiming far more TC working than not.

IMO either the NMW needs to rise quite a bit or childcare needs to be heavily subsidised and more accessible (very few childminders in my area and nurseries are expensive and mostly full).

I know exactly what it's like to drop off ill dc knowing full well they should be in bed but having to drop them anyway.

It's shit having to work full-time when your a sp. I've had a mixture of full time and part time jobs and part time still takes up so many hours it might as well be full time.

I don't look down on anyone who only works 16 hours the same way I don't look down on anyone who works 40. Parents can't win, your a shit mum and selfish if you do work and your a shit mum and selfish if you don't.

Don't be a marytr sovereign. Your not better then anyone because you chose to work full-time.

Yy if you have more than 1 under school age it becomes impossible unless you are a high earner. I ve only got 1 and couldn't afford another. Luckily because I've worked in the same job for years I've built up goodwill and it's easier to get flexibility and understanding if when ds is sick or there's days I can't do.
