Justmyluck1 · 22/10/2015 16:41

squoosh I was referring to my dh as daddy while talking to the dog. Dh said he wasn't daddy to a bloody dog and I
Pointed out that's what the cats call him so it was unfair. Wink

Hate hubby but worse 'lil man' and 'hollibobs' Angry

grimbletart · 22/10/2015 16:43

I am utterly unreasonable. If someone refers to their husband as hubby I cannot take seriously anything they say afterwards. Ever.

LineyReborn · 22/10/2015 16:48

Hubbibobs.

I just invented that.

ootsideinbacktaefront · 22/10/2015 16:50

I have a friend of a friend who for years drove me nuts by using hubs, only recently found his surname is hubbard and thats his nickname Blush all his mates call him hubs.

OOAOML · 22/10/2015 16:50

Holibobs with Hubbibobs Liney? Although (judgey pants on) is anyone who talks like that old enough to be married?

merrymouse · 22/10/2015 16:50

I don't have a problem with it. I stops you having to remember who knows & who doesn't.

Re: the OP, I think it can be assumed that she would be aware that this women was referring to her husband Brian if she just called him Brian.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 16:51

Get one thebestfurchinchilla. A much more civilized way to open the post!

squoosh · 22/10/2015 16:53

'Five more sleeps till my hollibobs'

When I get married I'm going to call him 'my current husband'.

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 16:57

cactus I think you just build a picture in your head when you're talking to someone, especially if it's a work colleague that you don't know socially. It's better to be open IMO.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 16:57

'my current hubby'

Sorry!

Thumbcat · 22/10/2015 17:00

I've found that people who say hubby are also the ones who announce "we're pregnant". I know a couple who refer to each other hubby and wifey Shock

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 17:01

Anyone out there gay and recently married? How do you refer to your partner? Can you be wife and wife or husband and husband or do those terms only apply to a hetrosexual marriage? Genuinely intrigued.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 22/10/2015 17:03

sorry it HAS to be a chip butty no other name is allowable.

OOAOML · 22/10/2015 17:04

I'm not gay, but couples I know do tend to say wife/wife and husband/husband. Guessing some still say partner? I also know one heterosexual married woman who carried on saying partner.

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 17:07

OOAOML That'll be cactus Smile

merrymouse · 22/10/2015 17:08

I think it soon becomes clear from context whether your partner is male or female and whether the context is business or romantic.

Same sex marriages certainly legally involve spouses so no logical reason you wouldn't also call your spouse a husband or wife, except for an innate dislike of the term husband or wife, as discussed above.

helenahandbag · 22/10/2015 17:10

I'm engaged to DP but I can't bring myself to call him my fiance. He's either my boyfriend (still makes me cringe), my partner (I can pretend we're lawyers) or just his name.

Like a pp said, calling him my fiance feels like I'm making some sort of statement, like I'm winning at life because someone wants to marry me. More fool him, I say!

WindyMillersProbationOfficer · 22/10/2015 17:10

I knew a woman who referred to her boyfriend as 'my paramour'. It might have worked if she was a Parisian courtesan from the 1800s. She was a receptionist from Stockton.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 17:12

She sounds fab!

Don't let humble origins hold you back Stockon lady!

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 17:12

I think i'll refer to my Dh as 'ma cherie amour' from now on Hmm

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 17:15

No he's not a pretty or little either but I do adore him Wink Blush

troubleatmillcock · 22/10/2015 17:21

'My lover'?

Jesus, boak.

thebestfurchinchilla · 22/10/2015 17:24

I think it means my love cherry which is a completely normal way to describe a 6ft 4 tree surgeon i think Hmm
