The Nativity Play is on Tuesday 22nd. I was just going to keep DD off the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but she'd be gutted to miss the play.

I really think the 23rd of December is ridiculous. That's 9 and a half weeks after half term, with no holidays or inservice days.

This is my PFB so a shock to the system! She was so tired at half term it took the whole weekend before I had my girl back. Finishing on the 23rd seems a sure-fire way to have a grumpy, overtired 5 year old on Christmas Day!

Back on the 2nd? That's a Sunday.

Just checked that and it's a saturday. So maybe they mean the 1st? or 4th? It's not unusal of this school to have really short christmas holidays though, it's an academy and the HT boasts on Social Media about taking her son abroad at Easter when they generally get closer to 3 weeks off.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 21/10/2015 21:19

Your attitude is rather odd laffy dear.

Hth dear.

Judydreamsofhorses · 21/10/2015 21:20

I teach (in Scotland) and we break up on the 22nd, then back to work on 6th January. It feels late to me, especially as we're hosting Christmas this year - argh!

ohtheholidays · 21/10/2015 21:22

That does seem late, ours have they're last day on December 18th and they go back the 5th January.

Sirzy · 21/10/2015 21:24

We finish the 18th and go back the 5th. I wouldn't like them finishing much later than that.

dementedma · 21/10/2015 21:25

Here in Fife this is the second week of the October holiday.

PrimalLass · 21/10/2015 21:33

I'm annoyed ours finish so early. I need that extra week to get organised. I like to go straight into Christmas.

PrimalLass · 21/10/2015 21:35

Oh, and I'm in Scotland and we seem to finish earlier than everyone else (18th). Bah humbug.

WotNoLoobrush · 21/10/2015 21:41

I'd also admit to not minding if mine finished on the 23rd as the 18th seems too early. Like a pp says, kids are climbing the walls before Christmas, and get less time to enjoy their presents after Christmas.

Next year when Christmas falls at the weekend, the kids'll probably still break up on the Friday the week before. It's daft.

WotNoLoobrush · 21/10/2015 21:42

and don't get me started on the fact they break up before lunch on the last day.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 21/10/2015 21:45

18th here too, which is about right IMO, I much prefer break up a bit early and go back on 2nd Jan to the other way round. I love having a week or so break from the term time routine before Christmas and by Jan 2nd we're all ready to get back to work/school.

5madthings · 21/10/2015 21:45

Ours break up on 18th. Ds3's bday is 23Rd so glad he has that off and I like the week off to do Xmas stuff, make crackers, decorate, bake, do gingerbread houses etc. Love the last few days and build up to Xmas!

prettybird · 21/10/2015 21:50

Schools in Glasgow stop on Tuesday 22nd at 2.30 and go back on Wednesday 6th January.

ddoherty · 21/10/2015 21:55

We're South Lan.

Schools close at 2.30pm on Wednesday 23 December 2015

Schools re-open on Tuesday 5 January 2016.

(the 5th??? The 6th was bad enough).

dementedpixie · 21/10/2015 21:59

I'm north lanarkshire and we finish at 2.30pm on 22nd and go back the 6th

dementedpixie · 21/10/2015 22:00

My sister's kids are south lanarkshire

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 21/10/2015 22:01

OP - why were you going to keep your DD off on those last three days anyway? It's still part of the school term Confused

I'm glad we finish on the 18th as DD is in the local panto and the thought of all those performances AND school is too much to think about!!

OvO · 21/10/2015 22:13

In Scotland too. We're finishing on the 18th this year which seems early. Back on the 6th Jan. We only had 1 week Oct holiday so wonder if we're getting a little extra Christmas holidays instead?

pebbletime · 21/10/2015 22:15

I don't think anyone was assuming Scotland was a homogenous mass...

WhatamessIgotinto · 21/10/2015 22:15

Blimey. I've never seen someone get in such a state about a pretty innocuous comment. Confused

Anyway, back to the OP. Just think of all the lovely lie ins you'll be able to have after New Year when lots of folk will be moaning about being back at school. I do know what you mean though, it is a bit late.

dementedma · 21/10/2015 22:17

This will out me as a Bad Mother but I have no idea what date DS breaks up. Erm....before Christmas some time.

We had one week October break and are stopping on the 23 Dec - not sure when they go back yet, hope it is 6 January, gives some time for enjoying the days off/January sales/ski-ing.

We are Stirlingshire district.
