AIBU to suspect that there are a lot of Daily Mail journalists starting threads on here?

Have noticed a lot of goady threads starting lately - just the sort of thing to get the beloved DM readers hot under the collar. Plus, was flicking through the DM's You mag earlier (it was the only thing to read in the coffee shop!) and saw a couple of articles that referenced MN.

I know I'm paranoid, but just seems a bit strange.

Are DM journalists banned from MN then?
Aren't they allowed to start threads?

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 15:13

I think there's a specific section for Journalists to start threads in SJ

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/10/2015 15:24

Could be but I think it's mostly sad goady nolifers.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/10/2015 15:24

Although so are DM journos Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/10/2015 15:26

I agree Fanjo. Even the DM journalists don't start the barrel scraping excuses for OPs that I have seen lately though.

YouTheCat · 18/10/2015 15:31

There's been some right twats about this weekend.

Whether they are journalists or not is another matter. But whoever they are, they're a bit thick.

The Torybot, that hangs out in the news, is vicious too.

Mistigri · 18/10/2015 15:47

There's almost certainly some astroturfing / paid trolling on here. If you have spent any time reading the comments sections of the national papers it's not that hard to spot - usually because of the amount of time posters spend pumping out a particular message with a specific wording.

It might help a bit if MN had a rule preventing people without a posting history from opening threads on the forums with the most traffic.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/10/2015 15:48

There's a few trolling for the cash too methinks

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 18/10/2015 15:50

Not as in being paid to troll..but hoping for cash and gifts

TracyBarlow · 18/10/2015 16:04

It's not DM journalists. What does a DM journalist have to gain, really, from starting a thread about, oooh, for example, fat people not being able to work? That's not a story.

It's just goady morons.

YouTheCat · 18/10/2015 16:06

DM journalists are often goady and stupid don't like the word 'moron'

TracyBarlow · 18/10/2015 16:07

Well yes, the people starting the threads could also coincidentally be journalists. But starting a thread to get people's opinions on benefit claimants is not a story.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were people being paid to troll.

howtorebuild · 18/10/2015 16:15

The dm has some kipperbots, in the comments, telling people who to vote for.

TracyBarlow · 18/10/2015 16:22

Egosumquism but what would the story be? "Mumsnetters say far people should get off their arses and work"? I don't read the DM but I can't see that one getting through a news conference.

I have only ever seen Mumsnet mentioned by the Mail a couple of times. I can understand journalists looking at the forums for story ideas in general but there's not really much to gain from starting a goady thread.

zeezeek · 18/10/2015 18:47

There were a couple of stories in the You mag today that quoted from MN (and the other site that banned me within 30 minutes of joining!!)

It's not just the DM, as anyone who read the pansexuality thread on here and also read today's ST will realise.

If you are a DM journalist reading this thread, then are you happy working for a paper like the DM?

It doesn't give a shit about many groups of people, especially women. I could say a lot more but you lot have blood on your hands from your "journalism".

FIW I agree - I loathe the DM and their attitude BUT - 90% at least of folk I see on the train (anecdotal I know) are women, also numerous female acquaintances who read it. Once had a very sharp exchanged with the admin woman at lawyers who were doing my divorce. She started it by quoting some load of arse from the DM in small talk. She seemed genuinely amazed when I told her I would never buy it and even more amazed when (after she asked) the numerous reasons.

wasonthelist · 18/10/2015 19:04

My point being I agree the DM is very anti-women - but they are selling it to a lot of women who either don't care or don't agree. BTW I have to keep telling my DM who is a Feminist icon (to me obv) to stop reading it online and stop sending me links from it - and she would never buy it, but still reads it online arrrghh!

sugar21 · 18/10/2015 19:11

Is it me but

RomComPhooey · 18/10/2015 19:25

If the people who start the Boden threads are shills its really misfired. There was one about their new upmarket range recently ansmd nearly everyone on it was saying how meh and overpriced they were. Hardly effective in drumming up sales.
