I have to chuck this chicken don't I?

I roasted a chicken last Sunday, we ate most of it, leftovers went in a sealed container in the fridge.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we didn't get to eat the leftovers. It's way too late to be safe now, isn't it? Sad

I feel so guilty as it seems like such a waste, but I don't want to risk food poisoning. AIBU to chuck it?

Definitely chuck it.

bustraintram · 18/10/2015 08:53

I would say smell it and if it's ok then it's ok! Maybe boil it into a soup so it is cooked?

wowfudge · 18/10/2015 09:05

It'll smell off or be mouldy if it's past it.

Oysterbabe · 18/10/2015 09:08

I personally wouldn't eat week old chicken and I'm generally pretty chilled about such things.

ChewlipsFromHamsterDan · 18/10/2015 09:10

Eww, I honestly wouldn't give it to the dog.

WitchWay · 18/10/2015 09:22

A week is a bit too long. If you have a cat they will love it!

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/10/2015 09:28

chuck. it!!!

Mermaidhair · 18/10/2015 09:40

My cat wouldn't eat it. 1 week is way to long, throw it out.

coconutpie · 18/10/2015 09:45

Bin it!

OfficeGirl1969 · 18/10/2015 09:49

The cats are my acid test. I offer a little of anything I'm suspicious about and if they eat it then I'll go for it. Hasn't failed me in 46 years....but I think chicken after a week is pushing it even by my standards.......

WitchWay · 18/10/2015 09:56

My cats would definitely eat it

DamsonInDistress · 18/10/2015 10:13

Five days is my limit for cooked, chilled chicken and I eat anything. Seven days? No.

PUGaLUGS · 18/10/2015 10:14

Bin it!

SlaggyIsland · 18/10/2015 10:18

OfficeGirl that's brave! I thought cats had a carnivore's digestive system ie much shorter than ours so can cope much better with gone-off stuff. Still, if it works for you Smile

LadyLonely1 · 18/10/2015 10:24

last Sunday? Off course chuck it.

afreshstartplease · 18/10/2015 10:25

Yuck surely it's time for a new chicken

Notimefortossers · 18/10/2015 10:29

YABU to even ask . . .yes! Of course chuck it!

Mynameismummy · 18/10/2015 10:31

It's really not worth the food poisoning..... Chuck it out.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2015 10:35

"I would say smell it and if it's ok then it's ok! Maybe boil it into a soup so it is cooked?"

No, no, no Hmm

Chuck it. The maximum recommended time is 3 - 4 days, not 7 days.

catfordbetty · 18/10/2015 10:41

I agree, smell is not a totally reliable way of telling if something is off. I'd definitely bin this chicken and wouldn't bother feeling guilty either.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/10/2015 10:46

Chicken is really dodgy, no chuck it, yuck, not worth D&V for a week, even reading it is making mu tummy funny Envy

BertrandRussell · 18/10/2015 10:48

I wouldn't and if I wouldn't nobody should. Sorry- I'd be outraged about the waste too. [ sad] I had to throw away some home made stock I forgot to put in the freezer this week. I was so upset- it was destined for risotto tonight.
