I have to chuck this chicken don't I?

I roasted a chicken last Sunday, we ate most of it, leftovers went in a sealed container in the fridge.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we didn't get to eat the leftovers. It's way too late to be safe now, isn't it? Sad

I feel so guilty as it seems like such a waste, but I don't want to risk food poisoning. AIBU to chuck it?

I would say smell it and if it's ok then it's ok! Maybe boil it into a soup so it is cooked?

I personally wouldn't eat week old chicken and I'm generally pretty chilled about such things.

My cat wouldn't eat it. 1 week is way to long, throw it out.

The cats are my acid test. I offer a little of anything I'm suspicious about and if they eat it then I'll go for it. Hasn't failed me in 46 years....but I think chicken after a week is pushing it even by my standards.......

OfficeGirl that's brave! I thought cats had a carnivore's digestive system ie much shorter than ours so can cope much better with gone-off stuff. Still, if it works for you Smile

Chuck it. The maximum recommended time is 3 - 4 days, not 7 days.

I agree, smell is not a totally reliable way of telling if something is off. I'd definitely bin this chicken and wouldn't bother feeling guilty either.

I wouldn't and if I wouldn't nobody should. Sorry- I'd be outraged about the waste too. [ sad] I had to throw away some home made stock I forgot to put in the freezer this week. I was so upset- it was destined for risotto tonight.
