I have to chuck this chicken don't I?

I roasted a chicken last Sunday, we ate most of it, leftovers went in a sealed container in the fridge.

Due to unforeseen circumstances we didn't get to eat the leftovers. It's way too late to be safe now, isn't it? Sad

I feel so guilty as it seems like such a waste, but I don't want to risk food poisoning. AIBU to chuck it?

Chuck it and have a word with yourself about feeling actual guilt over a few shreds of chicken.

"smell is not a totally reliable way of telling if something is off"

This . The bad smell is caused by bacterial spoilage. If toxins have developed it won't necessarily smell bad.

I eat things well over their date and have never had a problem but even I wouldn't touch week old chicken. Yeuch!

Oysterbabe · 18/10/2015 10:51

I'd feel guilty about chucking it too, I try not to waste anything.

ZorbaTheHoarder · 18/10/2015 10:54

If you've ever had food poisoning, you won't risk it! It's really not worth the troubles it could give you...
Bin it and be safe!

Can't believe you're even asking Shock

YakTriangle · 18/10/2015 10:57

I don't think I'd eat it after any longer than two days. A week, definitely not.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2015 11:01

"I try not to waste anything."

Eating week old cooked chicken is a waste if it is going to make you ill. Although you would save on food bills for several days afterwards Hmm

greenhill · 18/10/2015 11:25

Not even I would eat this and I'm relaxed about use by dates.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/10/2015 12:54

Lash it. It'd been there a week. You feel guilty about wasting food. You'll feel more guilty inflicting food poisoning on the whole family.
Plus it will have well sufficed it'd use by date, by now.

ohmyeyebettymartin · 18/10/2015 13:11

Have ditched it and the guilt along with it.

I have suffered food poisoning once before and I don't wish to experience that ever again if I can help it.

It's a no-brainer I agree. Was asking because I don't cook/eat meat much so I don't have that much experience of how long it lasts. I do know you have to be careful.

Thanks all!
