Last year for my birthday DH got me a silver diamanté necklace and matching earrings all very nice.

This year he asked me what I wanted and I said some more jewellery as I have hardly any. So I opened the box and it is exactly the same set as last year. I did not saying anything at the time but am still a bit bewildered.

Is this a man thing? would you have said anything.

When I was in secondary school I bought all 'my besties' the same pair of earrings for christmas as they were the cheapest in the index catalogue. Roll on the following year and I did the same - they hadn't changed their range. Oops.

One year I got 3 identical (awful) La Senza nighties from 3 members of the same family - my mum's friend, her sister, and her DIL. My sister got 2 of the same nighties from them as well. By the time we'd finished opening five identical presents, my sister and I were laughing so hard we couldn't speak.

PHANTOMnamechanger · 19/10/2015 19:47

BIL & SIL have got DH the exact same thing for the last 2 christmases and one brithday - he's a December birthday - so one December he got X for his birthday, then exactly the same X again for Christmas, then the same thing again a year later - we are eagerly awaiting this season to see if the same happens again - reckon they must have got a job lot in a sale, but really, you should keep track of who you give them to - I mean, the same thing a couple of weeks apart!! It's not something that would wear out or you'd need more than one of either!

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2015 20:32

Yes, say something.

Woodenmouse · 19/10/2015 21:01

My husband bought me a necklace I already owned. I laughed and told him and he exchanged it for something else. It's the thought that counts!!

starfishmummy · 19/10/2015 21:10

Mine has bought me the same knitting book twice.
He has a habit of giving me money - nice, but I would like him to put a bit of thought into it!!

Lweji · 19/10/2015 21:21

Move on to the second present he'd bought me. Exactly the same as the first present.

At least he didn't get that feeling from giving it to another girlfriend. Grin

I would be far more concerned about a relationship where you couldn't laugh this off rather than one where it happened. In my experience, men often have very little interest in much of this. (I'm laughing at the idea that a man's personality was at odds with the sentiment of the card he'd sent - as if he'd read it!!)

There is lots of stuff that I have no interest in at all that I pay no attention to that my husband cannot believe I don't hold in my head. I have no idea which of the three or four identical-looking remote controls in our living room is which, or why we need three or four of them. To him, they are clearly as unique as our children (maybe more so). At the same time, he can't seem to identify his own socks from our teenage boys' , or when I've had a hair cut. He still loves me.

cdtaylornats · 19/10/2015 21:35

My sister got me the same book three years running

Arrowfanatic · 20/10/2015 07:59

I had an ex boyfriend buy me a CD for my birthday (very end of November) and then the same CD again for Xmas. It wasn't even a CD I would listen to, think early 2000's teeny bopper music for a 23 year old rock music lover. We had separated by New Years Day lol

EponasWildDaughter · 20/10/2015 08:11

Another one here. XH bought me the same broach 2 xmas' running.

Broach mind you. I mean why? I am not a broach wearing person at all. He had never seen me wear a broach, nor hear me hanker for one.

I didn't want a broach.

I certainly didn't need 2.

I certainly don't need 2 the same ...

Confused

(it's a long time ago now and i am over it really ...)

cdtaylornats · 20/10/2015 10:20

Two broaches the same are great, you put a chain between them an use it to hold up a Roman cloak.

frazzleoff · 20/10/2015 15:36

has no-one said LTB yet?? Grin happy birthday and have some Cake and Wine and Flowers

my husband also bought me the same style of earrings about 5 times... birthdays and valentines!

to be fair - i've noticed a tendency myself of being drawn to similar things i've already bought...

WineIsMyMainVice · 22/10/2015 16:44

Men are so rubbish sometimes!!

cathyandclaire · 22/10/2015 17:12

My mum gave me the same bra and knickers 3 years in a row, the next year the same style in a different colour and then last year back to the original colourway again!
She once saw me in it in a changing room and exclaimed, oh what a lovely bra, where did you get it?
Luckily it's lovely Grin
