What can I make with a bag of porridge oats?

Apart from porridge! I have an absolutely massive bag - anyone got any ideas on how to use it up? Preferably something relatively simple, as I'm rubbish at complicated cooking or baking and don't own much equipment.

Flapjacks?

Osolea · 14/10/2015 19:45

Got to be flapjacks.

LadyPenelope68 · 14/10/2015 19:45

Flapjacks, Oat Cookies, add to Crumble topping, use as a coating for fish.

ZestyDragon · 14/10/2015 19:46

How about bread? 300g porridge, 500 ml low fat yogurt and a teaspoon of baking soda mixed together and throw in a well greased loaf tin.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 14/10/2015 19:47

Add to smoothies?
Put in a pair of tights, and put in your bath?
Face mask?

Granola or oat pancakes

queenoftheworld93 · 14/10/2015 19:48

Mix them with yogurt and fruit - overnight oats.

ConstanceMarkYaBitch · 14/10/2015 19:48

You could use them instead of breadcrumbs to make a trail to Food/Recipes, so you don't get lost again and end up in aibu.

I hear there are lots of food ideas in the food section of the site.

Cheesejack

PLEASENoMoreMockTheWeeksOnDave · 14/10/2015 19:49

Mars bar flabjack, it's delicious!

Pointlessfan · 14/10/2015 19:50

Beat a couple of eggs with a dash of milk and add enough oats to make a thick mixture. Fry them as little patties for breakfast, these are delicious.

BetaTest · 14/10/2015 19:51

Homemade granola.

I am severely gluten intolerant so have to make my own breakfast cereal with gluten free oats but you could do it with any type of porridge oats.

This recipe is great and very easy to do.

Layer oats into a glass dish, cover with tinned chopped tomatoes.
Layer with more oats, cover with anpther tin of chopped tomatoes.
Final layer of porridge oats, top with grated cheddar cheese.
Bake in oven until cheese has melted.
Very filling, very tasty and easily customisable by adding pepperoni or salami and changing for different cheese etc.

shadowfax07 · 14/10/2015 19:53

Put a handful in spag bol, chilli, mince and onions, etc to help bulk it out. The oats thicken the sauce, though, so keep an eye on it in case you need to add more water or stock.

My grans biscuits...sadly the recipe was lost over the years but i keep finding myself buying oats in the hope of finding how to make. They were flat and like a cookie. Last time i attempted to find the recipe i ended up with treacle everywhere. How do you get that of the tin without redecorating the kitchen...

Seeyounearertime · 14/10/2015 19:54

Hers a link for my half assed recipe lol. Bear in mind this recipe is for 1 serving so multiply up for more people.

Can you edit posts round here? My last post was the wrong link darn it. goodfood.uktv.co.uk/recipe/oat-cookies/

Cheesy oat burgers - so not complicated, just stick all ingredients in a bowl and smoosh together.

I just use handful of oats, some grated cheese, pinch of sage and an egg or two dep on amt of oats but if you need a more exact recipe here's a good one:

Sorry on phone and can't do live links!

shockedballoon · 14/10/2015 20:01

Except it is apparently a live link Confused

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 14/10/2015 20:03

A face mask! It's s good exfoliant

confusedandemployed · 14/10/2015 20:06

OK it's a Welsh thing but trust me, they are divine.

Mix with laverbread (you can get it tinned and don't let the appearance put you off), chilli and garlic. Shape into patties and grill. Yum. I'm salivating.

chocomochi · 14/10/2015 20:10

You could add a handful or two to a cake mixture (and use less flour). A slightly chewy texture but no difference to the taste.

londonrach · 14/10/2015 20:16

Thanks seeyou. Will try those ones. Love to try my grans biscuits again along with her lemon buns that were kept in the fridge. Sadly she died over 10 years ago. They not the biscuits but they do look good, and im cross i cant remember the receipe. I remember it had limited items in as we took turns measuring them out.
