I am being unreasonable. Are you?

So I have this hand soap. It is not expensive, but it is lovely. Almond and hibiscus. It makes my hands feel so nice. I like to wash them with it before I go out, because when I do, I forget that my hair looks like Medusa on a bad day and my weirdly belated post-pregnancy pot belly is showing. I feel like She of the Softer Than Fairy Liquid Hands. I feel like I could play tennis in a period advert.

Yesterday my MIL 'helpfully' filled my half full bottle of magic hand soap with FUCKING TAP WATER so that it would last longer.

It now has the consistency of curdled milk and my hands no longer feel soft and lovely. I am Medusa with a pot belly and there will be no tennis playing for me.

I know I'm being unreasonable, and she was only trying to help. She is lovely. But she has to die, right?

Anyone else have any unreasonable grievances to share?

I forgot the worst part. After MIL had defiled my lovely handsoap, she called me to the bathroom and made me look at it. I had to look at it is poor watery remains and affect and cheery grin and tell her how thankful I was that she had done such a thing.

BeautyQueenFromMars that's probably the right way to go about it. At least that way you never risk being blinded, as per above. I only squirt it directly onto my head because I am extremely lazy Grin

Oysterbabe · 08/10/2015 22:12

I squirt into my hand. How can you tell how much you have applied otherwise?!

arizonamaybe · 08/10/2015 22:14

Oysterbabe I go by the number of squirts. I also... well, I like to make swirly patterns on my head. Some childhood habits never leave us Grin

What fuckyouchris said, add cold tap water to everything of theirs to make it last longer. Petrol, tea, toast, flat screen telly, everything. DH did this once to febreze once, ffs. Do the helpy fuckers actually do some real helping by buying more of the stuff? No, they leave that to the shopping fairy.

Senpai · 09/10/2015 05:06

I have foaming soap. It smells amazing (limited edition fall scent) and makes my hands oh-so-soft.

If someone put water in mine, I'd have to give them a public beating to make an example of them.

aBrightNewDay · 09/10/2015 05:18

OP treat yourself

aBrightNewDay · 09/10/2015 05:20

In fact there is a whole range with body lotion and bubble bath too!

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 09/10/2015 05:40

I feel like I could play tennis in a period advert

I hate helpy fuckers and their fucking helping

Two of the best lines I've read on MN this year.

GruntledOne · 09/10/2015 05:55

OP, would you get back the nice clean hands feeling by using twice as much?

TeamScoutRifle · 09/10/2015 05:55

My mum does this too. I couldn't care less. I use hand cream anyway to keep my hands soft & silky.

LadyB49 · 09/10/2015 06:09

MIL was being kind, give her a break. It's hardly a hanging offence.
Bigger things in life to worry about.
Confused

IguanaTail · 09/10/2015 06:26

leavemywings
May I add pico's

she now goes along the row of 3 hand washes, like the missing scene from goldilocks.

Lweji · 09/10/2015 06:28

Not a soap one, but...

I bought two dresses from a south American country. They are the type you can wear to the beach or a relaxed summer day. Both have sort of tassels at the bottom. Or rather, had. I made the mistake of leaving one at my mother's once. When I returned the following time she had fucking cut the tassels and sewn a proper hem. She was pleased. I was clearly displeased fucking furious and seriously considered making her put the tassels back. This was years ago and I still haven't forgiven her, even though I haven't worn the other dress for ages either.
We now live in the same town and she's not particularly encouraged to visit.

PunkrockerGirl · 09/10/2015 06:31

You need to go NC with mil.
This is an outrage. If my mil did this to my lovely handwash she would no longer be welcome in my home Grin

IguanaTail · 09/10/2015 06:35

What are your current lovely hand washes? Mine are the pink pepper one from Molton brown and the mint one from the White Co.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

But I'm also a sucker for Palmolive honey.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 09/10/2015 07:01

Why oh why did you thank her?!

Why didn't you say, "Oh for the love of God, what have you done?!"

Now she's going to do it again!

You'll never be able to trust her in your bathroom from here on in. This is going to escalate. It's only a matter of time before we have a "MIL diluted everything I own, and now my entire life has been watered down into a useless semblance of what it once was. Even the dcs are all watery and globular." Thread.

The only sane way out of this now is to build a new downstairs toilet, specifically for MIL's use. Fill it with used toiletries, that she can top up to her heart's content, and never let her in any other room in your home.

Iagreewithmrsdevere · 09/10/2015 07:38

Flowers for your tassels lweji that is a fucking outrage she also must die.
These are the same helpy fuckers who chuck the last inch of your drink away because you left it unattended for 2 fucking minutes- yes you MIL and DH. Maybe it is a genetic thing and could be eradicated with a bit of eugenics? (FYI I am a bit delirious due to lack of sleep)

Weathergames · 09/10/2015 08:00

In my defence I wouldn't dream of "topping" up toiletries in others houses...Grin

Oysterbabe · 09/10/2015 08:18

I'm amazed this is such a widespread issue. When my hand wash is down to the last inch I buy some more. Isn't that the logical thing to do?!

DoctorTwo · 09/10/2015 08:23

She's reinvented homeopathy! :o You've got homeopathic handsoap, or as I call it, water. Grin

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 09/10/2015 09:19

:o at homeopathic soap.

Market it! Quick! All natural ingredients, hypoallergenic, no nasty carcinogens... You'll make a fortune. And you can probably sell them some natural remedies for all those stomach bugs they suddenly start suffering from too.

Win win!

Lweji · 09/10/2015 09:52

That's the Christmas gifts for my sister and her husband sorted. Grin
Homeopathic soap.
I'll dilute it and shake it 50 or 1000 000 times too.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 09/10/2015 10:50

There's a whole range. Homeopathic cleaning products. Homeopathic make up. You could even go so far as producing a homeopathic food range!

The overheads are minimal, the mark up is phenomenal! :o

Number3cometome · 09/10/2015 10:56

I put water in my soap, but do have some standards as to how watery it came be. I only ever refill say a quarter with water.

It's just a back up plan until I can get to the shops remember to buy soap

Number3cometome · 09/10/2015 10:58

I love the carex Cola Bottles or Bubblegum ones.

They make me want to drink the soap and ok, I admit, I might have used it as shower gel before twenty odd times
