with his talk of wanting a fairer more equal society??

So that's why thousands of people are going to be thrown into poverty come April, disabled people have been disadvantaged by the welfare cuts, the bedroom tax has dislocated loads of people, millions are priced out of the property market, food bank usage is at an all time high and the "living wage" is a bare faced lie Angry!

Also where was the detail in his conference speech as to how he is going to achieve this equal society?

MrsCorbyn, with regards to the spare room subsidy. What if there are no smaller properties available for the tenants to move into? That's not their fault is it?

Gottagetmoving · 08/10/2015 15:57

If Labour had'nt fucked the country over, the Tories wouldn't have to clean everything up.I blame Labour

Oh FGS,..there are people who still believe this??!
Read some facts. The Tories have had over 5 years to 'clean up' and are making everything bloody worse! You probably believe austerity measures work too?
Read some facts about what caused 'the mess' instead of believing Tory shite.

OurBlanche · 08/10/2015 16:30

FFS every government has to fix the fuck ups of the previous incumbents, whatever flavour they were. Tories are fixing tory fuck ups from years ago, as well as Labour ones, even some hang overs from the Whigs.

It is a continuum of good, bad and indifferent from every age, every party every when, every where, every who.

The nasty trick they play is to try to get you to believe that there is a reset button that was pressed at the end of their last incumbency, so every shit thing happening now is simply not their fault. Of course it is. They all have their hand in it.

The only thing we can do is vote for whichever party seem best for today. Good luck with that one, today and tomorrow!

ssd, agreed. Dolly agreed too and put so much better than I could. Bobby wash may not want people reliant on the state, but for a lot of ordinary people it is a necessity , not a choice at all. If the welfare state didn't exist, where would people live? on the streets? I don't have the answers, but I feel sad that others just think its all fecklessness and being work shy that leads to the benefits bill - the MPs and the lords are all paid out of our taxes too. My own dad is 93, he can remember when you had to sign on twice a day at the employment office and if you had as much as a radio in your home ( from when you were working) they took it all away- everything and left you nothing but the money you got till the next day and to sign on again. He can remember it all bless him, and was a reminder to me to always count my blessings that we have a state that does look after our disabled people and those not able to work. the likes of Ian Duncan Smith and others would disagree of course. They want a few more pounds for their rich mates. I have a friend, who I have mentioned before on here, who has a very rare disease ( think 300 in the whole of the uk if that) and will never be able to work. she has lots of other health worries too. She isn't a scrounger at all. its people like her that I am glad we are able to help. She has to fill in endless forms, but has a really good supportive GP, always in and out of different hospitals and clinics, but she is so positive its an inspiration. WE may need help one day too, never be complacent in life, ever.

eedon · 08/10/2015 17:19

I think its time to accept that over 80% of people voted for party's that supported austerity. The system wasn't perfect under labour.

Babyroobs · 08/10/2015 18:44

People keep bringing up about tax credits being cut for disabled children, but I read somewhere ( sorry can't remember where) that the disabled element of tax credits is actually increasing significantly. Can anyone who is knowledgable regarding tax credits actually confirm this as I wonder if people are just assuming the worst before it has even happened.

Mistigri · 08/10/2015 18:56

babyroobs a quick look at disability charity pages suggests that in fact most families with disabled children will lose money as a result of the changes.

Despite how they have been presented (and Cameron may even believe his own spin) there is good evidence that many policies have not just affected the disabled but that the disabled have been the group most affected - the bedroom tax being a prime example.

ladybug201 · 08/10/2015 19:03

A 9 year pay freeze that started under Labour ...

mumeeee · 08/10/2015 19:09

Yanbu OP. Society is becoming less equal and the conservatives are definitely not supporting the workers well not the ordinary workers. They are cutting tax credits which will push more people into.poverty.

lavent · 08/10/2015 19:18

Support the workers Hmm

Dollymixtureyumyum · 08/10/2015 20:27

Labour started privatisation- ha ha ha ha ha Grin really!!!

Tiredemma · 08/10/2015 20:31

`I thought it was a great speak finally we have a party that supports the workers

I am a 'worker'. They do not support me.

Dollymixtureyumyum · 08/10/2015 20:35

Also this they are fixing what Labour started crap. Maybe in the first few years you could use that argument but now it's getting very very very thin.
And yes I agree in a perfect world we would all earn enough to live without help but I don't see these people that say that queuing up to give disabled people jobs.

If any person who has said on this thread that everyone should support themselves I would like to know what job you would give to someone who can't verbally communicate, cant walk, has very little cognitive function and is incontinent.
Or
Maybe someone who has 20 seizures a day like I used to. I applied for 50 plus jobs and had to see the interviewer lose interest when I told them I had epilepsy.
I also was incontinent of urine and lost my memory of the previous year for about 3 hours.
As soon as I got better and was able to cope I got back into the world of work but I have no shame to say i claimed benefits for 3 years.
So job suggestions then-
No I didn't think so

Tiredemma · 08/10/2015 20:41

Even if Labour did start the mess- why make Disabled people pay for it????

cleaty · 08/10/2015 21:18

What does it matter who started these cuts? I care about what is happening now. The Government has decided to make certain cuts, and disabled people especially have been very badly impacted. The Government should take responsibility for that.

God how does his speech affect disabled children? Confused
I haven't seen it because he makes my teeth itch

eedon · 08/10/2015 21:42

Can someone give an example including figures of how a disabled person would be affected?

AndNowItsSeven · 08/10/2015 21:55

Babyroobs at one point the Tories said they would lower the disabled child element under UC for children in receipt of low or middle rate care. They said they would increase the element for children in receipt of high rate care. They now seem to have forgotten about the promised increased however they are still cutting the element for those not in receipt of high rate.

HelenaDove · 08/10/2015 21:58

Dollymixture I wouldnt be surprised if people are hiding health conditions like epilepsy to secure a job and just taking the risk that they wont have a fit when they are actually at work. They are being left with no other choice.

I remember when the chief exec of Next was on Question Time a few years ago making comments about disability benefits.

The obvious question to ask him after that would/should have been "What is your policy on employing disabled people? Not one member of the panel or audience asked that obvious question or if they did it was cut from the show.

My corner of Twitter seems to be under the assumption that most NHS workers are left wing They obviously havent been on MN!

Owllady · 08/10/2015 22:10

If he wants to improve life for those with severely disabled dependants, it might be worth ring fencing health and social care budgets and looking at progressive improvements and to stop thinking we all claim fucking benefits

sproketmx · 09/10/2015 00:36

Not unreasonable at all. What the fuck does he know about real people. Shove him in a council flat up our way fir a few months, see how he copes

mimishimmi · 09/10/2015 02:57

There's a very good reason why Corbyn might not give two hoots about 9/11 .....

Donotknowhownottomind · 09/10/2015 07:02

What are the reasons mimi (genuine question)?

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 09/10/2015 07:11

Cameron doesn't think Corbyn hates Britain. Cameron just wants the plebs to think that.
