Its been pretty sunny today, so hallway is 19. That's warm enough right? I've got my slippers and jumper on and if anything I'm a bit too hot.

too scared to put our heating on. We have storage heaters and still the horrible prepayment meter from last occupiers and scared of how much it will cost! We can't afford much more than we already pay for electric :/

I lived with my ex mil for 15 years - no heating except a gas fire in the living room. There was ice on the inside of the windows in winter and having a shower required clothes off/dash/wash/stand shivering wrapped in towel. It was hideous.

This council house is luxury, with its fancy central heating thingy. Thermostat is set to 17 but I'll try to hold off putting the heating on until half term. In the winter it's on for an hour in the morning and then a couple of hours in the evening. If it's really freezing, I'll bung it on for an extra hour.

I had one of these when I had no central heating. They're really great, if at least one room is warm then I think the Winter cold is manageable.

We live in a drafry Victorian flat so need a minimum level of heating. Ive found in the winter we need to keep the heating on with the thermostat set to a min temp otherwise it takes forever to heat. We don't have it on high (19/20 is the highest in bitter cold) and for autumn/spring we just have it on for the early hours (2am-7am)

I'd love a modern house for the heat!

20 here. No way am I sitting at home shivering

Nine degrees inside. We have ice on the inside of the windows in the winter, but I have thick curtains an it doesn't bother me.

We dont have a thermostat. Heating goes on if I'm cold. Simple:)

Its difficult for us as we have electric storage heaters. Therefore no thermostat. We switch the heating on when the cold is too much and there is a worry of freezing pipes (latest will be 2nd week of december as we go away for the weekend then). The bill will be astronomical if we had heating on now so holding out for at least late november. We also have tiles throughout our ground floor which make the house colder but a wood burner in our living room with a chimeny that is central to the house so the bedrooms get warm through that (iykwim).

Not entirely sure how this will work with my DD who is a toddler now but think she will be fine as the cold does not seem to bother her much. I may pop a heater in her room to warm it before bed. She sleeps under duvet so nice and cosy.

We've had a programmable thermostat for a few years now and it's quite handy. It's not a remote one but you can pop in the temperature for different times of the day and days of the week. So it goes up at 5.30am on weekdays and turns off before we leave the house but comes on later at weekend mornings. Same for afternoon and then evenings. With the bonus you can override it if it's particularly chilly.

Saying that it's been quite mild here recently so even if it was on it wouldn't have kicked in yet - I'm still debating whether to switch to the autumn 9 tog duvets (still got the lighter summer ones on!!)
