AIBU to think that the full moon is partly to blame for the high number of troll threads today?

Just that really. I'm becoming disillusioned by Mumsnet.

I propose a game of 'troll shots'. If you think a thread is a troll and it goes 'poof', take a shot of gin. We'll all be three sheets to the wind in no time.

I've already started…..I'm two shots in and my 'troll-dar' usually sucks hind titty!

reni2 · 27/09/2015 23:00

But "high number of troll threads" presumably means more than just the one with the dog? What else have I missed?

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:01

Bugger me, I actually took 5 minutes out of my life to post a pic on FB, a rarity and 25 replies on MN.

I have pondered about replying to a number of threads, only to find they have been deleted.

Perhaps I'm growing a pair of MN antlers?

OP posts:
elephantoverthehill · 27/09/2015 23:02

Sorry I spelt 'poof' incorrectly.

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:02

I haven't seen the dog thread, enlighten me please..

OP posts:
Greengardenpixie · 27/09/2015 23:03

The one about someones dh not taking no for an answer. The person posting wanted it deleted mind you. They were afraid. I have no idea if that was a troll.

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:05

Green, I'm on to that one too.... I though " eh up".

OP posts:
Blodss · 27/09/2015 23:07

I don't think the husband forcing sex thread was a troll and the OP has been on many threads in the last couple of months. Do an advance search and you will see.

But yes there often seems to be a lot of mayhem caused in real life on a full moon and I often wonder if there is a connection.

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:09

Thing is; there are some genuine cries for help, but ,I dunno... you kind of get a gut feeling that sometimes there are those who get their jollies posting stuff about all things sex related or whatever.

Elmofan · 27/09/2015 23:09

I'm not a troll ....promise Grin ( i started the dog collar thread) Blush

giraffesCantDoThat · 27/09/2015 23:09

bank hol weekedn here

sugar21 · 27/09/2015 23:10

There is one running now in line parents that I'm not sure about

Greengardenpixie · 27/09/2015 23:11

Who was the OP? How do you do an advance search? The thread has been deleted.

sugar21 · 27/09/2015 23:11

Should say lone parents

Patapouf · 27/09/2015 23:11

Sorry again elmo I didn't realise dogs were such a popular aibu topic Grin

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:13

Dog collar? So hubby wasn't forcing himself on you as a result of sleep apnoea? Perhaps the side effect of long walks with barking dog and guilt complex?

OP posts:
Samcro · 27/09/2015 23:14

the dog one was easy... a supposed dog lover allows her dog to be ill treated for 3 years......bollocks

Patapouf · 27/09/2015 23:15

I do automatically think that any thread about evil DSCs, pubes or sex is written by a troll.
And anything super goady like BF v FF.

ScarletRuby · 27/09/2015 23:15

If the dog thread was deleted because of the 'BunFight reason then I'm furious. if a vile individual posts and asks if people think they're a vile individual people should be allowed to say yes. That thread was deleted because people had opinions, which is surely what a forum is all about.

ChilliAndMint · 27/09/2015 23:16

Thread deleted, and I never reported it. Yes the DH " forcing himself on DW" one.

OP posts:
reni2 · 27/09/2015 23:17

I appear to have a shit troll thread radar. What makes you think a thread is a bit iffy?

  1. extremely tragic, especially a chain unheard off of tragedies (sometimes so big they'd be on the news)
  2. sexually fishing (how to dtd with baby in bed etc/ how clothes feel on body parts)
  3. super contrary (want to marry grandson's girlfriend)

But many posters seem to spot them much earlier than I do, what do I miss?

reni2 · 27/09/2015 23:18

X post with Patapouf. I am slow at typing, too.

Patapouf · 27/09/2015 23:20

Sometimes there's just something off reni there was one the other day (not deleted, nor commented on by MNHQ despite multiple reports) that just didn't ring true. Op claimed to be 17 but she didn't sound 17 IYSWIM?

reni2 · 27/09/2015 23:28

I do get that feeling sometimes too, Patapouf. I just thought maybe they are trying to protect their identity, like adding 10 years to their age or making a dd into a ds to make sure they won't be spotted.

Off to look for a thread with a 17yo op

WorraLiberty · 27/09/2015 23:30

But yes there often seems to be a lot of mayhem caused in real life on a full moon and I often wonder if there is a connection

Of course there's not connection.

MN has always been a troll magnet because it's one of the few (or maybe the only) site that actually encourages people to post using more than one name.

Add 'penis beaker' going viral and the fact MN is often in the news nowadays, it's become like a pilgrimage for internet trolls to visit.

But people need to name change for obvious privacy reasons, so I don't see a solution.
