Called "unprofessional" for doing the school run in PJs

Pollyisnthere · 24/09/2015 18:24

Snide comment from someone else. Wtf should i wear for a professional school drop off? I do live in my PJs and love it while I'm not working. Often have two pairs a day so its not dirty. Aibu to do this?

OP posts:

This thread is hilarious!

Personally I'd be really embarrassed to go out in my PJs. I was mortified when I had to do it going to the doctors because I was doubled over with stomach pain and everything else was too tight. I ended up being hospitalized with appendicitis and was still embarrassed about being out in my PJ. However I couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone else does. Wouldn't judge you for it, probably wouldn't even notice to be honest, and if I did would be a bit impressed with your own "don't give a fuck" attitude rather than anything else.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 25/09/2015 15:55

What gets to me about this thread is the op apparently sleeps naked and then gets up and puts on her pyjamas?! Why not just get up and put on comfy clothes? Mad.

MrsHathaway · 25/09/2015 16:16

My actual sleeping pyjamas might include leggings or yoga pants. If I turned up for the school run in those nobody would be any the wiser.

Yabu choose your pyjamas more wisely and all will be well I'm afraid.

sproketmx · 25/09/2015 16:32

My tone has more to do with my hangover than how much I care tbh. Neither wonder some folk get all up high doe.

DinosaursRoar · 25/09/2015 16:39

PJ in the daytime is a sign you are ill (either physically or mentally) or have no self respect.

Mind you, the OP hasn't explained why after sleeping naked, she puts on fresh PJs rather than real clothes to go out, nor why someone who doesn't sleep in PJs started buying them in the first place...

Smartleatherbag · 25/09/2015 16:50

Well, I'm mentally ill, pretty bad right now, but still very much dressed for school drop off and pick up...

CainInThePunting · 25/09/2015 16:51

As DinosaursRoar says, if getting dressed in the morning why not just put on normal outdoor clothes instead of bed clothes?

Very odd to my mind but it's your dress sense, do with it as you will. Just don't be surprised if you get the occasional Hmm as it isn't normal practice to go about the day in bed-wear.

sproketmx · 25/09/2015 16:55

Why? Why does pj's in the daytime mean you're ill? Why is getting dressed a sign of self respect? Who gives a shit? Why do we all have to care about how fabulous we look to everyone else? Why is it so bad to have an I can't be fucked day and not get dressed for that entire day?

BorisJohnsonsHair · 25/09/2015 16:56

They're quite right. It makes you look lazy and like you have no self-respect.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 25/09/2015 16:59

sprote forgive me if I'm wrong but didn't you claim to be out last night, got drunk, passed out in your dress and then proceeded to put on jammies this morning and go to the shops in them? Why the fuck didn't you just put on clothes? Literally no extra effort and you wouldn't look like a scaff.

Lweji · 25/09/2015 17:01

So, you are the one on pjs doing the school run...

You wear what you like, but I wouldn't go out and about in my beachwear. Nor would take my child to school in the morning in a ball gown. Conformist, I know. :)

kissmethere · 25/09/2015 17:11

Yabu it's lazy and it looks vile.
I Iive near a hospital and often see patients popping out and back in again quickly to the corner shop. THAT is forgivable! Being too lazy to throw on a dress or jeans or whatever is not. Talk about rolling out of bed into the world!

RebelliousScotsToCrush · 25/09/2015 17:12

This is one of the weirdest threads I've ever read. Keep it coming!

starlight2007 · 25/09/2015 17:15

Lots of things cross my mind..Firstly even if your own kids don't care someone else's will and kids are cruel..

Secondly yes I would look at you and wonder why you can't put on clothes.

I would certainly never want my DS think this is ok way to go to school.

sproketmx · 25/09/2015 17:42

Clothes are not as comfy as jammies. Though totally regretting thus onsie thing. Forgot how hard it is to take a pish in a chemical bog in one. Reason I ddnt put clothes on was because I'm having an 'I'm so ill I can't be fucked and all I've got is me to feel sorry for myself coz it was totally self inflicted' day and was hoping to get away with that for the whole day and night. But sadly not. I've now got to go collect my son and his pit bike who have broke down a few miles away.

I asked my eldest daughter about it tho. If she was embarrassed by my jammies antics and she said no. She said her big Bro promised to kill me if I wear trackies with timbies again tho so I might just go pick the wee shite up like that Grin

PrimalLass · 25/09/2015 17:58

Am I the only one who sleeps in the buff?

Of course you are. The. only. one. ever.

BathshebaDarkstone · 25/09/2015 18:01

I only wear a t-shirt and Tena pants in bed, that would be draughty on the school run! Grin

LillianGish · 25/09/2015 18:04

I can just about get my head round the idea of over-sleeping and pulling on a coat over pyjamas to save time, but if you sleep naked then you are making a conscious style choice to wear pyjamas. Pyjamas as daywear. I think YABU if you think people might not find that a bit odd.

LoveChickens · 25/09/2015 18:05

YABU. What a slobbish way to live.

kissmethere · 25/09/2015 18:38

Sproketmx hope you feel better soon. "Trackies and timbies" yes do it pmsl.

Misnomer · 25/09/2015 19:10

I think it does show a lack of self care and I think it must be pretty confusing for children to be told that the must wear a uniform to school but their parents can not bother getting dressed. I'm also fairly sure that not getting dressed would be a red flag for mental health assessments. No matter how depressed I've been I've always gotten dressed. I think that the CPN who triaged me years ago found it confusing that I was saying how unwell I was but I'd gotten dressed and brushed my hair. I should have turned up in pjs and I might have actually gotten some help. So, yep, if I saw someone in pjs on the school run here I'd be very concerned that they weren't coping with life.

Lweji · 25/09/2015 19:15

Clothes are not as comfy as jammies

It depends on the clothes. I have clothes that are about as comfy as pjs.

Pixi2 · 25/09/2015 19:20

Discover some comfy jeans and a slouchy top (with a bra). A splash of perfume, bb cream and some nude lipstick and you're fine for a school run.

TheDowagerCuntess · 25/09/2015 19:27

I love the idea that the pyjamas in public wearers think they're the bohemian, free-spirits-without-a-cause types sticking not their fingers up at the conformist establishment!

Yes, that's exactly the image you're portraying in your saggy primark get-up, scummy slippers and unwashed hair.

Grin
sproketmx · 25/09/2015 19:32

I did it. Just back. And it worked. When he saw I was wearing his dad's trackies and my timbies he refused to let me get out the van and put his bike in himself. This could be good for me. I shall now use this more 'come in on time or il come out looking for you in trackies and timbies' Grin he's going to hate me
