to hairdryer myself?

Regular poster, name changed in case this outs me. ??Following a conversation today in the office about the program First Dates where that daft woman admitted to blow drying her "nunn", I said that sometimes in the winter I blow dry myself when I am drying my hair. Not my fanjo, I hasten to add, I just sometimes get cold so a blast of warm air down my dressing gown warms me up. My office now think I'm ridiculous. Confused??So, AIBU to blow dry myself? Does anyone else?!

Another with Raynauds that does it!
Although the Staffy thinks a hairdryer is an instrument of torture and must be defeated woof woof woof

CocktailQueen · 22/09/2015 10:41

In JD Robb's 'Death in...' books, set in 2060, bathrooms all have a drying tube instead of towels :)

FattyNinjaOwl · 22/09/2015 10:46

I do it all the time. I get so cold! So the heat is heavenly. I also use it as white noise to get my DD to sleep when she is having one of those fussy overtired days. Stick her in a bath and dry her, get her a nappy and jamas on then dry her hair and leave it turned on for a bit longer. Works a treat. Wink

DH often dries his armpits with the hairdryer so that when he applies anti-perspirant, it doesn't clag and go lumpy.

Pisghetti · 22/09/2015 12:21

DP blow dries his furry bits - his whole body basically. We also blow dry the baby's bottom after nappy changes. The midwife recommended we make sure she's dry to avoid nappy rash and keeping the 'arse muslin' separate was too much for our sleep deprived brains to manage so we started using the drier on a lukewarm setting. She also gets a blow dry after her bath to keep her warm. I haven't even got the PFB excuse Blush

DramaAlpaca · 22/09/2015 12:22

I do my underarms if I've used a roll-on anti-perspirant Blush. It dries quicker that way.

SaucyJack · 22/09/2015 12:37

As long as you're not doing it under the hand dryer at the swimming pool, then it's fine.

IconicTonic · 22/09/2015 12:43

Although our swimming pool does have an extra high hand drier for doing hair.

BabyGanoush · 22/09/2015 12:46

no, but I hug my Rayburn when I am cold (wearing oven gloves)

VenusRising · 22/09/2015 13:03

I dry my underarms with my hairdryer after the roll on, as I don't want to hang around waiting for it to dry before getting dressed.

I also used to heat up my duvet when I was a poor student with my hairdryer.

In fact I love going to our local pool as there's a hot air drying booth- costs 2£ for 3 minutes and you're completely blasted- hair dry, everything.

I think I'll get a push button hand dryer in my bathroom actually, much nicer than a towel.

I reckon the folks in your work are missing out OP.
At least you know what to get them should you ever need a leaving present.

PuntasticUsername · 22/09/2015 13:19

THIS IS GENIUS

HOW HAVE I NEVER THOUGHT TO DO THIS

I love you OP

Junosmum · 22/09/2015 13:22

It's nice and warm, why not! I do it- and OH asks me to give him a blast occasionally too!

OHs granddad has a built in dryer in his bathroom- it's basically a giant hairdryer in the ceiling, it's really nice! Dries you in seconds.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 22/09/2015 13:26

People have toddlers who let them use a hairdryer? My DD won't even stick around while the hand dryer us is in use in a public toilet...

jollygoose · 22/09/2015 13:28

I do it every day after shower, my only worry is my dd lets her dc do this and as they are very small it worries me that they might think it fun to wee on it and electrocute themselves.

ShammyDavis · 22/09/2015 13:54

I don't do it now because I hardly ever use a hairdryer, but when I was early teens I had raging itching eczema on my neck and the hairdryer on it for a moment relieved it without tearing it to shreds by scratching.

Still terrible for my skin I know.

MaidOfStars · 22/09/2015 13:57

I also dry my freshly-painted toenails with the hairdryer and get snug warm feet when doing it

Chewbecca · 22/09/2015 15:22

All depends if I'm dressed before hair drying.

On a workday, I get dressed before drying so no, I don't.
On a weekend, I sometimes dry my hair whilst still in a towel - that's when the opportunity arises, and yes, absolutely I have a blast all over. Especially under my boobs and my saggy belly. It feels great!

LabradorMama · 22/09/2015 15:36

I suffer with terribly cold feet, especially in bed. I get a pair of bedsocks, blast the hairdryer in them for 5-10 seconds then put them straight on. It's heavenly.

MustBeThursday · 22/09/2015 16:06

I haven't done it before, but I think I will be now! when I get round to replacing the hairdryer

somersetsoul · 22/09/2015 16:20

The company I work for used to sell a body dryer. It goes on the ceiling and is like a massive hair dryer that blasts onto you. Its supposed to dry you within a minute or something. Sadly we no longer sell it but it was a top seller!

islablossom15 · 22/09/2015 16:25

My DP blow dries himself every morning before he gets out of bed to warm himself up, drives me absolutely potty!

greenhill · 22/09/2015 16:44

The rest of your office is weirdly unimaginative. I bet they'll try it next time they have a shower too Wink

JumboFuckingJet · 22/09/2015 16:47

I hope I've converted my colleagues! They're missing out Grin. I'm really pleased you all do this too!
I don't know how you all blow dry your toddlers though, mine also runs away from hand dryers and won't sit still long enough for her hair to be brushed let alone dried!

And I'm definitely hairdryering my bed before I get in it on cold nights! Brilliant idea!

Socks too - when they are still damp and you need a dry pair, or just on a cold day, or when they are old and stiff, put one ON the end of the hair dryer and give it a few seconds blasting - voila, nice hot easy-to-put-on socks!
