Dadsnet

Good morning. I have an idea about a dadsnet website, but not really sure on how to start it. I have had a website for a year and only recently discovered it has 50 visitors a day, which is a good start I guess. Any ideas?
Thanks
Tim

I thought dadsnet already existed?

AloraRyger · 20/09/2015 09:15

Dadsnet

Why do dads need a special dad site? The tagline on here is by parents for parents, dads are welcomed as long as they aren't hateful misogynistic twats.

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 09:32

It is just an idea. I read on here this morning that there were questions posted a while ago from I assume dads, wanting to know if there was a dadsnet website. So all I was after is ideas.

Why shouldn't they have their own site though Alora? There's been lots of discussion about women only spaces on here lately why can't men have their own space?

OneDay103 · 20/09/2015 09:47

Alora this site is mostly dominated by women, anyone can see that. Nothing wrong with a Dadsnet site.

TenForward82 · 20/09/2015 09:52

Wow, never been to the Dadsnet board before. Not anything there I wouldn't have expected to see ...

Tim, you need to read some articles on website promotion, pay for advertising, talk to dad bloggers on Twitter, etc.

BIWI · 20/09/2015 09:54

So you thought you'd come to a competitor site for advice?! Grin

All I wanted to know is if there would be an interest at all. I don't want to be a competitor to this site, but I am sure there is an interest. I have also noticed there are discussions on DIY stuff on here, removal stuff etc. If these were posted on a dadsnet site, then men or women could answer the questions. I don't know, I am just throwing ideas out there. Tim

If you want to know if there's interest, I suggest posting on the Dadsnet board, not on AIBU.

SilverdaleGlen · 20/09/2015 10:09

Ah see you had me until "DIY" being a DADSNET kinda thing.

There is nothing wrong with a website named for "dads" don't think it's competitive really. But don't I think it's been done unsuccessfully.

JeremyCorbynsStylist · 20/09/2015 10:13

Great idea - I'm sure they'd be a lot of interest.
I wish you all the best.

Backforthis · 20/09/2015 10:16

Tim, are you using Mumsnet for commercial research?

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 10:16

So if I do this, I would need it to succeed. I just know basic web skills. It would be an ongoing project until it gets support. I would need advertisers etc obviously as I have no funding. In my current job I just earn minimum wage, so need to start looking for something new. Tim

I think this is a case of 'if you build it, will they come?'

As pointed out, there's already sites aimed more at dads. But there's always room for the next big thing. How would your idea stand out from what is already out there?

... I don't get it. There is a dadsnet. And it does seem that dads and even non-parents (like me) are welcome here?

JeremyCorbynsStylist · 20/09/2015 10:24

Tim,
The reason MN is so successful is because ( & I'm not going to be popular saying this ) women have more time on their hands.
They're usually the one at home with the children so come on here to pass the time & feel less isolated. Also, women tend to talk more about their problems than men. Men aren't too bothered about a lot of the stuff that gets posted on here because a lot of it is female related ( school run dress etc )
But I admire anyone with a business idea so go for it.

Holty41 · 20/09/2015 10:24

Just research only

Grin I'm not that brave!

BIWI · 20/09/2015 10:29

You do realise, also, that you actually have to pay MN to do research here?

Fairenuff · 20/09/2015 10:30

I don't think there's much of a market for it tbh. The dadsnet here is very quiet.
