DD has a double crown, her hair is a nightmare!! Help!

Does anybody have any tips? I daren't take her to a hairdresser as I've heard that double crowns are a hairdressers worst nightmare. She's 2 and has really, thick, curly hair.

I read somewhere that double crowns can also be a sign of developmental delays but she's hitting all of her milestones so I'm thinking this is just an old wives tale.

My friend has done French plaits in DDs hair and they looked lovely! She sits still for her like a little angel but won't for me when I try to do it grrrrrr

Dd2 has a double crown (as do most of dc's family) she was a late walker, and is dyslexic, but no delays.

She has an asymmetric cut, long on one side and short on the other, her hair also has a lot of curl (it used to be like candy floss) - she looks awesome

MrsMook · 18/09/2015 22:27

DS has a double crown that means his natural parting is across the back of his head. He also has quite a pronounced widows peak on his hair line at the front. His hair is wirey and tufty anyway. He's a natural scruff bag!

I keep his hair on the longer side, but it's such a fine balance between helmet head or too short and looking like a toilet brush. At the front I'm growing it into a swept aside longer fringe as it gapes open anyway.

He has an optimum look of two weeks where his hair looks half decent, and getting the right hairdresser is critical.

My DS has a double crown and can confirm, he's thick as shit. 19 months old and has only been walking two months, and does not speak at all yet.

Luckily he's not had to have a haircut yet. His hair naturally grows forward luckily, so I just trim his fringe to keep it out of his eyes. It is getting a little long at the back.

DS1 has a double crown and cow lick, not sure it's linked to his dyslexia Hmm

DD and I have them too, no developmental delays and we're both right handed. We both have bra strap length hair, hers straight and mine wavy. Only problem with mine is it falling into a horrible white parting on the back of my head (my hair is dark). For DD she always had one fat and one thin bunch and it's really hard getting it into a high ponytail or bun, but for every day she just has one long plait now and that's fine.

MrsBungle · 18/09/2015 22:31

Aaaah op, your dd is gorgeous. As she gets older and her hair thickens out a bit it will be fine.

sliceofsoup · 18/09/2015 22:32
Shock

I am pretty sure both my DDs have double crowns. I never knew until this thread, and I will investigate their heads in the morning. I have a vague memory of my GM telling me DD1 had a double crown and would be intelligent, when she was a baby. She is intelligent, but that's probably coincidence. :o

Both their heads are really difficult to get a parting. Bunches end up one fat one thin. The hair is all over the place.

MrsBungle · 18/09/2015 22:32

All the children are very cute!

DD has a double crown. It was a problem when her hair was growing but now it's long, you wouldn't know. I do 'do it' for her every day though. She's 8. I do French plaits, Dutch flower braids, chignons, twists, all sorts of stuff. She can't have her hair down as it just hangs very oddly.

The attached picture is how she had her hair today (not her hair though, a stock photo) and it looks absolutely fine that way. The crowns don't cause a problem. It's really easy to do too. I guess it does take a bit of extra effort each day but she doesn't mind and I spend around 5 minutes max doing it.

Oh and dd is very bright indeed and hit all milestones early. Her hair hasn't held her back. Grin

Gruntfuttock · 18/09/2015 22:39

I've got a double crown and it's never been a problem in any way at all.

unlucky83 · 18/09/2015 22:41

I have a double crown ...as a pp said only time I know I have it is when hairdressers comment. I also have a widows peak - when I went for a bob when I was about 11 it took ages...the hairdresser kept complaining about both.
I cut my own hair now - don't have to hear about it - it is longish and I mainly have it in a pony tail ...
Oh and I'm not left handed...and have a Phd

hazeyjane · 18/09/2015 22:41

Permits, I did sculpture at college, and I can tell you now, it would take several hours and a lot of alcohol to sort out hair like that. Hats off to you.

PermetsTu · 18/09/2015 22:44

Nooooo hazey, it's really, really easy. Like, can do it whilst nagging ds about his shoes, half packing a bag and screeching about "FIVE MINUTES WE HAVE TO LEAVE IN FIVE MINUTES" at a volume which makes flowers wither and die, easy.

It's just a Dutch flower braid. Really, really easy.

katemiddletonsothermum · 18/09/2015 22:47

I have a double crown and I graduated at 20 and have impressive postgraduate qualifications. The double crown is still a right pain though. I can't have short layers so a mid-length cut is about as short as I can go in order to cover up the double crown at the back. Bouncy, fluffy styles are good as opposed to very flat hair styles. I also have to be very careful with the WOW powder in between colours - other than that, it doesn't bother me at all.

hazeyjane · 18/09/2015 22:53

I can just about manage a quick, 'sort it yourself' to dd1 whilst she scrapes her hair up into a Croydon facelift and I chase ds around the floor while he waggles a pooey bottom at me and dd2 appears still in her pyjamas.

I can't face hair sculpture.

OTheHugeManatee · 18/09/2015 22:53

Well, I have a double crown and ended up with a First from a university one isn't supposed to brag about on MN so the developmental delay thing is probably bollocks Hmm

FWIW a layered bob and a light blowdry does the trick here Grin

PermetsTu · 18/09/2015 22:59

hazey, I only learned how to do dd's hair because no matter how hard I tried, a pony tail or a couple of bunches looked like a total mess on dd. Then she grew out her fringe too and it looked awful all over, got in her face and by the end of a day at school, was ridiculous. So I thought, right, I'll learn a couple of go to styles for school mornings. I have no interest in hair at all and was dreading it. YouTube is largely responsible for dd's hair and hand on heart, it takes less time to stick her hair in a couple of braids or something like this picture for example (this one's seriously easy) than it does to try and manage a parting and two bunches. Plus, it's really easy when she's got swimming as the swimming hat goes straight on.

Zippidydoodah · 18/09/2015 22:59

Permets- that is STUNNING! Will google how to do it!

Hazey- I love your dd's hair, too. It is very funky.

Teladi · 18/09/2015 23:01

I think my DD might have a double crown which would explain why I can't figure out how to part her hair...! Her hair was very late to grow in so she is now 4 and still hasn't had her first haircut.
