To think blue carrier bags look "naff"

Can't think of a better word..
Theyre a bit hard to avoid when you're going to the market or local shop, and I really hate carrying them. I never reuse blue carrier bags for anything apart from a bin liner.

When I see someone carrying a blue carrier bag down the road I feel bleugh...I just have this irrational dislike for blue carrier bags. after the blue ones I hate the stripy white and blue or white and red ones. They're flimsy and ugly.

And me! Not I. Whoops, sorry, that's much worse than a blue bag. Blush

Prelude · 17/09/2015 21:47

I thought your comment was very funny Gunpowder Smile

Doyoufeelluckypunk · 17/09/2015 21:47

I'm so with you on this OP!!!!

yeOldeTrout · 17/09/2015 21:58

Don't ALL carrier bags look naff?

Trying... failing. Nope. Can't think of an exception. Plastic bags all look naff. At least it's a nice shade of blue.

Gruntfuttock · 17/09/2015 22:22

But sometimes, you can think all the things you need will fit in the bag you take with you to the shop and then find you also need a carrier bag for just a couple of extra items I'm a bit taken aback that so many of the posters will judge anyone who has a "naff" carrier bag so harshly. I think it is extremely mean-spirited and small-minded to even notice, let alone draw negative conclusions about people. I can't imagine thinking like that at all. It just goes to show how many judgemental and nasty people there are.

BigRedBall · 17/09/2015 22:35

Why are you getting your knickers in a twist over this? Are you a blue carrier bag manufacturer?

That's to frunt btw

Hate them. It's the sign of a shit shop. There was a Facebook meme about this, with the blue bag being a signal that you overdid it last night and could only venture as far as your local to gather provisions like Ginsters and NikNaks. This is a thing OP!

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 17/09/2015 22:37

Blackwell's Bookshop in Oxford have very smart dark blue plastic bags. Apparently they are quite collectible by tourists who like to look intellectual.

I am aware that I have missed the point of the thread, thanks.

Sazzle41 · 17/09/2015 23:38

My point was its sad that something so mind numbingly inconsequential 'matters' to you, to use your own word when there are far bigger and more worrying and/or interesting things in the world that 'matter'. But carrier bags 'matter' to you. Yawn.

BigRedBall · 18/09/2015 07:26

If you find it so "yawn", then why do you keep coming back to prove your point? Does it make you feel "intelligent"? A lot of interesting things matter to me. A lot of uninteresting things matter to me too. That makes me human.

They're generally from low end shops & yes, they look naff!

So tell us Sazzle - of all these world changing things that "matter" to you - how many can you actually influence or are you just kidding yourself that you're an "intellekchool" coz you only worry about the big stuff??

BerniceB · 18/09/2015 08:35

The blue (and green) carrier bags used locally have a strange (and quite unpleasant) smell. They are fine in other locations.

Scarydinosaurs · 18/09/2015 08:39

OP, I here you.

I once watched a horror film where the murderer carried around chopped up bits of bodies in those blue carrier bags. Brrrrr. Gives me he heebie jeebies just thinking about it.

Gruntfuttock · 18/09/2015 11:34

OP my post at Thu 17-Sep-15 22:22:59 was in response to the one immediately before it, which stated that ALL carrier bags (not just blue) are naff. I was saying that sometimes it is unavoidable to have to use one and unfair to be judged so negatively for it. Before reading this thread, I wouldn't have expected anyone to notice, let alone draw negative conclusions about a person having a carrier bag of any colour. That's all. I think it takes being judgemental to ludicrous lengths that's all.

Sazzle41 · 18/09/2015 12:38

Iknow I am just saying that in the scheme of things I can find things like plastic carrier bag colour something that 'matters.'. The world is going to hell in a handbasket but OP things colour of carrier 'matters'. She is entitled to her opinion, we both are. To me if something 'matters' its usually something more serious is all.

IdBuyThatForADollar · 18/09/2015 12:38

Brrr... I try not to be -ist about anything, but I am a bit bluebagist I think.

That's because my exH used to bring his stinky cheap cider home in them (or sometimes black ones - they're even worse) and just seeing them reminds me of the dread I felt at the prospect of an evening with someone sinking can after can of Strongbow while bemoaning me, him and his miserable existence while I waited for him to pass out.

Ahh. I'm like an unpoetic Alan Bennett de nos jours (if Alan Bennett is no longer of nos jours). You're welcome.

NotAWhaleOmeletteInSight · 18/09/2015 22:50

Get yourself a nice bag for life dear. You could get one with a lovely logo such as "I am not a plastic bag" (duh), or one like my brother's: "I am not a smug twat" - whatever gets you through the day.

I don't especially like them as they're flimsy, but I do really enjoy buying things from local independent shops. My local greengrocer is far far cheaper (and friendlier) than Sainsbos.
