To think blue carrier bags look "naff"

BigRedBall · 17/09/2015 11:43

Can't think of a better word..
Theyre a bit hard to avoid when you're going to the market or local shop, and I really hate carrying them. I never reuse blue carrier bags for anything apart from a bin liner.

When I see someone carrying a blue carrier bag down the road I feel bleugh...I just have this irrational dislike for blue carrier bags. after the blue ones I hate the stripy white and blue or white and red ones. They're flimsy and ugly.

(in blue bags I mean, sorry, I seem to have missed out the point of my sentence Hmm)

wasonthelist · 17/09/2015 12:26

Good grief op. Yabvu.

rosieliveson1 · 17/09/2015 12:28

Blush I don't like blue bags either!

BigRedBall · 17/09/2015 12:29

No I'm not. They're ugly.

I have a strong dislike of Blue carrier bags also Op.

BigRedBall · 17/09/2015 12:32

Thank you to all the blue bag haters Smile

I know exactly what you mean, I hate using them. If I see someone carrying one (here in Scotland) it's usually a bottle of Buckfast inside.

Eminybob · 17/09/2015 12:37

Thank goodness for that, OP. I was utterly, utterly lost on this thread until you posted that picture. So, by 'blue carrier bag' you meant a carrier bag that is blue? No wonder I was confused!

Grin

I've never really put any thought into before it OP tbh but I actually would prefer to reuse a blue one as its neutral rather than using a tesco or sainsburys one therefore clearly advertising where you have been shipping. Not that you could reuse a tesco or sainsburys standard one as they are ridiculously flimsy. I think the blue ones tend to come from corner shops and the like vid that why you are averse to them? Maybe dont shop in places which give them out then?

MackerelOfFact · 17/09/2015 12:51

How do you feel about the green or black ones, OP?

I notice the stripes attract quite a premium. Shock

Prelude · 17/09/2015 12:55

They are bloody useless. My flatmate and I lost a bottle of vodka to one once, just outside the shop. It was like watching our weekend slip through its blue flimsy tissue, shatter and seep away down the drain Sad

GardeningWithDynamite · 17/09/2015 13:03

We bought some blue carrier bags on Amazon to use as potty liners. They don't have holes in them.

grisclair · 17/09/2015 13:04

Theyre a bit hard to avoid when you're going to the market or local shop, and I really hate carrying them.

Really? Hmm I always take a reusable canvas bag or one of my Longchamp bags. Plastic bags look and feel horrible and more importantly they're the most unnecessary waste of resources.

LovelyFriend · 17/09/2015 13:26

they look very pretty waving from the trees

Twindroops · 17/09/2015 13:57

I didn't think I had an opinion on this why I opened thread I don't know but, seeing the green ones make me think ooh they're nice! Black ones look like giant dog poo bags IMO.

I try to use one of my too many jute bags where possible

Gruntfuttock · 17/09/2015 14:00

Prelude Oh that's awful. I remember that happening to a lovely bottle of wine once and doesn't licking it off the pavement make your tongue sore?

elQuintoConyo · 17/09/2015 14:04

I make reusable bags out of old curtains.

One or two might be blue.

Shall I turn them back into curtains?

TiredButFineODFOJ · 17/09/2015 14:26

Yup for me the blue bag symbolises alcohol abuse of some sort, whether being carried full of cans or discarded in the park. They are a very distinct blue.

Prelude · 17/09/2015 14:32

Grunkfuccock I'm very sorry to hear that.

Grin at licking it off the pavement.

Mine was actual Smirnoff, not even the undrinkable poison the corner shop was known for.

MissHooliesCardigan · 17/09/2015 14:38

I don't like them and DH is practically phobic about them so it's definitely a thing. As a teenager, I used to collect carrier bags, mostly from fashion outlets. I thought it was a 'zany' thing to and that the cool kids would like me. It didn't work.

Gruntfuttock · 17/09/2015 14:42

"Yup for me the blue bag symbolises alcohol abuse of some sort"

Shock Good grief! There are people who actually label anyone using a blue carrier bag an alcoholic? That's incredible.

OneDay103 · 17/09/2015 14:43

Weirdly enough, now that you've brought it up I feel the same. Just feel like you got it from one of those old, small nick nack dingy shops. Don't know why I would think that. Hate the SB bright orange one as well.

CloakAndJagger · 17/09/2015 14:50

Blue and stripy carrier bags are common. The type of thing carried by people who watch ITV and think that Lambrini is posh. Seeing them reminds you that we're all only a few streets away from someone who thinks Jeremy Kyle can cure their family.

It's easy enough to cure. You need to knock your heels together three times and say "there's no taste like quinoa" and all will be well.

PerspicaciaTick · 17/09/2015 14:51

We get a lot of blue bags as DH does all our fruit and veg shopping at a local market. Much nicer stuff for a lot less money than supermarkets. The greengrocers usually use brown paper bags, and then put all the individual packages in a blue carrier.

At the moment, a blue bag just symbolises excessive consumption of plums.

UterusUterusGhali · 17/09/2015 14:51

Wow.
Between this and the wank-off thread MN is on FIRE today.

I'm on the fence on this one.

OP, get a naice shopping basket to tuck under your arm.

MrsJorahMormont · 17/09/2015 14:52

Yep another one who associates them with a bottle of Buckfast or a few breakfast cans of Special Brew :o It must be a northern thing.
